1. Web page with a field: location (type your current location).
2. Upon enter of location, a map updates to that area.
3. A left sidebar would appear beside the map describing trending keywords for the day (for the given area).

Map Data source: Google Map
Keywords Data Source: Google Trends, twitter hashtags

This sounds like a Google Labs app.
