This Entrepreneur Earns 5 Times More Than His Previous Job
Eligio considers himself a freelancer. He is part-programmer and part-blogger. Since he found his own little business niche, he's now an inspiring entrepreneur. I interviewed him to get a brief glimpse into his life:
Do you earn online? How would you compare your earnings to your daily salary/allowance (is it more, less)? How would you compare it to an the average Filipino worker?
Eli: I started earning online in 2005, I was a full-time web developer that time working in a certain company in Ortigas and I do freelancing in my spare time. As a freelancer, I worked as a web developer. Clients were mostly from Digitalpoint where I also first learned the art of making money online thru ppc, paid to click, paid to surf. I tried everything, got paid nothing on the first month, same thing on the 2nd month. Unfortunately, I got scammed!
In year 2006, I resigned from the company and decided to work as a full-time freelancer and at the same time focus on my Adsense. I also did website flipping - I created/bought cheap websites, improved it and sold it for a higher price. My earnings increased 5-6 times compared to my previous salary! What's great with freelancing is you don't have a boss. Yep, no boss, more money! For me, this is a dream come true!
Describe the typical day of an blogger like you. What did you just do today/yesterday? Was there anything that you did today that is related to your online income business?
Eli: As a blogger I do nothing special, I often update my blog. I earned a little from blogging... I spent most of my time developing websites, and SEO. I'm more of a programmer. Just yesterday, I created a traffic exchange script for my arcade. Now I'm in testing mode.
Tell us briefly about your experiences with your websites and your other online money-generation ventures. Can you give us a brief history of your most successful website?
I'm a person who goes with the flow. I build a site based on the latest trends - what's the hottest niche, the most profitable web site. I tried building low maintenance sites like myspace graphics site, wallpaper, directory site, anime site, automated blogs, arcade site, etc. This kind of website can easily be sold at forums like Digitalpoint (provided that it has traffic and monthly earnings). I usually sell websites if I want to buy something or need funds for the next project. Most of my profits are still from adsense and widgetbucks.
One of my most successful websites so far is my flash game site. I started the site in late 2007 and after two months of continuous link building and promotions, all my hardwork paid off. I was able to upgrade my hosting (to dedicated) and get another VPS account for my other arcade sites. The earnings continued to grow and I no longer need to work as a full-time freelance programmer. :)
What would say to inspire other Filipinos hoping to earn online?
Eli: Want to become a full-time freelancer and earn online? Think twice, being a freelancer is not an easy job. It's sometimes scary. Many freelancers find themselves working harder than they ever did and later on decided to look for another job again. Such a waste of time! So before quitting you daily job, you must first build your business online. For example, if you are a writer, try to create a website, and portfolio. Be flexible, learn new tricks since you are a writer try to learn SEO, be marketable and more indispensable!
