Two Secrets Of The World’s Youngest Filipino Technopreneur
Carl Ocab seems like any other 15-year old kid. We wakes at 5AM, is in school by 6AM, and goes home by 4PM. He is then online from around 6PM-10PM. Other kids his age would be watching videos or playing games at these times. Not Carl. He does something more. He blogs and provides online support for his website businesses. Carl is a young technopreneur.
Carl paid for his own tuition fee. He just bought an iPhone. Now, he’s thinking of getting of getting a Black Hummer H2. He made it one of his personal goals. How MUCH does this fifteen year old earn and he can dream of such an expensive vehicle?
Well, he earns more than your average Filipino.
Magkano ba starting sa Call Center? 15K? Definitely mas malaki dun. (How much is the starting salary in a Call Center? 15K Definitely a whole lot bigger than that).
What’s fascinating is that he earns all that income passively – through ads on his website. He does it while still studying and staying at home with his parents.
With success comes fame. Carl gained the attention of classmates and teachers when he was featured in other websites and in the PRESS:
“Pinakita ko sa 1 teacher at 5 student. Then kumalat. O Carl Manlibre ka na, sabi nila. Di raw nila akalain na may serious side ako.” (I showed it to a teacher and 5 students. Then it spread. Treat us out, they’d exclaim. They didn’t think I had a serious side.)
How did Carl do it? What was the BIG SECRET to this 15 year old’s money-making schemes?
First 3 months I was at SEO.PH – Asking a lot of questions. It was around February, almost summer. I would spend the whole day blogging and my mom would say GO TO SLEEP when I was still up at night. By July-August my site was at the first page for ‘Make Money Online‘. I used to do affiliate marketing and Adsense, now I just rent out ad spaces.
1. Go for the highly searched keywords and link-build naturally.
Carl went after the very big and well searched keywords “make money online.” He wanted to try “internet marketing” but decided the former was probably easier. He did a lot of Natural Search Engine Optimization.
Natural link building, link baiting, making articles/tools/themes. My title itself – “Make Money with a 13 Year Old.” was the link bait.
2. Focus.
He attributes his success to a razor sharp focus on the essentials. In this case, he put all his efforts in link-baiting and in Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Carl explains that Internet Marketing is complicated but can be made manageable.
break it down to specific areas – say blogging, meron tayo email, affiliate, SEO and then you focus sa isang area. Dun ka lang magconcentrate. It’s really easy.
Focus sa isang area. (Focus on one area)
Finally he ends with his favorite quote:
You see, in life, lots of people know what to do, but few people actually do what they know. Knowing is not enough! You must take action.

Great Interview! I have been following Carl for some time now. Even with all the countless blogs about the same subject, I am amazed at his relevant and easy to read content in his blog. And I love that he responds to emails and questions I send him.
Did he talk about his richkidmedia company? I wouldn’t mind working for him even if I’m twice his age. hehe.
No he just focused on this blog. Truly an interesting kid.
Yeah, I also salute Carl. In fact, I included him in my “most admired bloggers” article. Truly an inspiring one.
Carl is THE MAN… I mean THE KID. LOL.
