5 Second Getting Things Done (GTD) with Gmail Tasks

You need an in-basket. Anything that will collect all the stuff the goes through your head so you can clear it out. That's what Getting Things Done (GTD) advocates. When you have that, you can then set a time when you process everything in your in-basket. Part of processing is to identify TASKS that need to be accomplished.

That's now easier with Gmail. Consider your email client, Gmail, as the in-basket. Send everything that's on your mind - whether is a corporate event or a simple reminder, to Gmail. Get it out of your Psychic ram to remove the stress a bit. As you process, you can do several things:

1. Delete (Yes, there is a DELETE key)
2. Defer (Put it in a contextual folder - even alphabetically arranged folders will work)
3. Delegate (Email to somebody else)
4. Schedule (for those that have very strict dates already)
5. Just Do IT! Or at list put it in your tasks list.

This is where Gmail tasks comes in. Clicking on a tasks link on the sidebar would pop-up your little to-do list. Write what you need to do. If it can be done within two minutes, DO IT. Keep repeating (even if sometimes you'll forget) until you get the habit going.

Blog post done. Check off Gmail task. :)

  1. For implementing GTD you can use this web-based application:

    http://www.Gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
A mobile version is available too.
