Do Philippine ISPs limit Torrent Traffic?

Last week Google announced a online tool to measure the torrent traffic from Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

Google challenges ISPs with Web measurement tools from Measurement Lab, a research effort designed to put ISPs in check. The partly Google-sponsored M-Lab aims to be a new network neutrality weapon for content providers to wield against service providers who throttle Web services or assign preferential traffic treatment. Google is clearly protecting its cloud computing kingdom.

The question on my mind was – do Philippine ISPs (like SkyBroadband) limit torrent traffic?

The quick answer, as of January 27, 2009, is NO.

I couldn’t access Measurement lab right now so I looked for an alternative torrent-blocking tracking site. Based on the new Glasnost Bit-torrent traffic check, Philippine ISPs currently let its users freely use the net. NO we aren’t torrent-limited.

I ran the test myself and found some interesting results:
sky-limits

As I understand this – theoretically Sky Broadband could go almost 48 Megabits per second! I also discovered that I have some limits on my computer which I’ll need to adjust.

Run your own traffic test and see how well you fare.

  1. Update on this? Thinking of switching to SkyBroadband and read in a couple of forums about significant lags in torrent downloading. Thanks!
