Microsoft Was Just Waiting For New Yahoo Leadership
It appears Microsoft was just waiting for the new Yahoo CEO before expressing its interest on the Search Business again:
Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer said Thursday that the US software giant remains interested in a search business partnership with Yahoo! and welcomed the appointment of new CEO Carol Bartz.
Microsoft was ‘turned down’ by the previous Yahoo CEO, Jerry Yang. This lead to tumbling Yahoo stocks and eventually to the replacement of Yang. Carol Bartz, Autodesk’s executive chairman, became the new CEO to instill confidence back in Yahoo.
From what I’m reading about her, she’ll likely sell part of Yahoo’s Search Business to get some immediate revenue for the company. Microsoft is interested and it would make good business sense to make some quick cash from this deal.
If that happens, the online SEARCH playing field will become a showdown between Google and Microsoft.
