Google released the Android software as open source.
What does that mean? We’ll probably see more cheap iPhones clones running Android in the market soon. Check out a HTC TyTN II with Android from this youtube video:
There is a still a lot to be done here but you can see the potential of this. Google has provided an operating system for cell phones. Since the Taiwanese can make gadget clones of nearly any device, they’ll use the FREE OS for their devices. We already see it on iPod clones in the market, why not iPhones?
What we are seeing is something like how Windows and Linux started for computers. This time around, we’ll see the development for mobile devices. Apple’s iPhone software (and hardware) is like MS windows while Google’s Android is just like Linux.
For the entrepreneurial minds out there, this is a unique time for you to create iPhone and Android applications. You can MAKE MONEY from selling apps.
For instance, I see some e-Book reader apps already on the iPod touch. You can download or buy e-books online. It’s making my iPod touch an Amazon Kindle.
Surprisingly, I don’t see an Amazon Application for the iPhone/iTouch yet.
See what I mean? Some programmer with a technopreneurial spirit can easily make a free iPhone/Android app the offers or sells e-books.
We’ll then probably see someone eventually aggregate all this, or make something like a unified browser/viewer app for iPhones/Android Phones.
Point is – mobile technology is becoming easier and cheaper to access. Opportunity abounds!
