Is Apple Losing Its Marketing Touch?
So Apple, through it’s regular marketing show, highlighted the “next generation” of Macbooks.
A quick look at my friend’s tweets pretty much summarized the general feedback I’ve received:
So basically, the new macbook has a new graphics card, an aluminum casing and a multi-touch trackpad? Meh. - Mikey
I don’t see the value in the 9600m gt - coming from an 8600m gt (arguably the same performance) - Marco
And what is it really? Unremarkable.
More so is how this particularly marketing ploy didn’t really seem to get the usual wows and whoas that I have grown accustomed to hearing.
What was more remarkable was how STEVE JOBS looked like:

He was visible pounds off his former self.
Herein lies Apple’s fatal marketing flaw. It is centered around the man himself - Steve Jobs. A hit on the person himself could translate to stumbling stocks.
While of course we are all wishing Jobs only the best of health, investors may want to know more about Apple’s succession plan. Who may be next in line should Jobs have to take time off or retire?
So when you see other VPs on videos describing Apple’s products, you’ll wonder - is Steve Jobs slowly letting others into the marketing limelight?
Throughout the years, Jobs has been Apple’s sales and branding wizard. With his health now in question, perhaps its about time to look at other marketing directions.
