Three Instances Why The Philippine Internet Scene Is Gaining Ground

The origins

I’ve noticed some cool things happening lately brought about (I think) by the solid online community here in the Philippines. Last year there were many blogging events that made people aware of the local internet community. Among these were:

- The Philippine Blog Awards
- iBlog Summit
- SM Hypermart Sponsored Blog Events

The effects

And what were the effects of these? Although I can’t prove a direct effect, I strong suspect that the recent events in the Philippine Internet scene were due to the online community. These include:

- The Activation of Send/Receive Payments Option on Paypal
- The search for more Internet Experts like Friendster’s Product Manager
- The Planned Opening of the Yahoo Philippines Office. (Video below:)

Predictions

Because of these I predict the following will happen this year:

- Yahoo to actively hire more local Internet Experts
- Other US based internet companies to make local appearances
- Google will announce its own Philippine Office

I look forward to a healthy Internet year for the Philippines.

Meron pa. Internet Marketing Workshop ko with Bo Sanchez. March 28-29,2008. It’s on it’s repeat performance this year. It’s really going to be an exciting year - internet wise. I’m spilling “my” secrets on earning from the internet - the the most lazy way possible. :)
