Two Problems With The Unionbank EON-Paypal Setup
After chatting with people who have tried out the new Unionbank EON and Paypal setup for getting money online, I’ve learned of two general problems with it.
1. PayPal doesn’t always accept the Unionbank EON card. Users need to verify to get the full benefits of PayPal. A web designer friend tried to verify her PayPal account by registering an EON card on it. When she did, she received an error message indicating that her card was denied.
In a chat with a fellow technorepreneur, I was told that one needs to have some credit history with their cards before they have the cards register.
“You have to use the card both offline and online. Fill it up with cash and get yourself a transaction history.” He explained.
My web designer friend apparently used a totally fresh new EON card. Thus, she was denied.
2. It takes more than 5-7 days to transfer money from PayPal to Unionbank EON.
My technopreneur buddy tried to get some money from Unionbank EON. He transferred some cash from PayPal to EON. It was initially thought the this would only take 5-7 days. The currency was converted to pesos and took more than two weeks. My friend discovered that the transaction process wasn’t really smooth. This would annoy those people who really need the money instantly.
Despite these problems, we still look forward to using this combo. If it works, Pinoys can take advantage of many online income opportunities. We predict that this getting money online through PayPal will vastly improve in a year’s time.

Over at Unionbankph.com, you can see that Paypal is now prominently displayed.
Actually, if that alert pops up, I found out, it’s because Visa is updating their system (or you don’t have funds on the account). It happened to me recently and annoyingly, it took two weeks before they were finished!
I got my expanded use code as soon as I verified my Eon card – except that I didn’t recognize it for what it was and let it sit for a couple of days.
Your EON account is considered a savings account, so when you have to withdraw / deposit you’ll need to mark ‘savings’ on the slips, though I don’t recommend withdrawing over the counter – that costs you a fee wheras withdrawing from their ATM costs you nothing. Costs you nothing to deposit funds either.
In regards to the e-wallet, I think it’s best to ask since it might be possible to use Paypal with the e-wallet. You could try it out; otherwise, inquire at a branch.
I had the misfortune though of getting my application lost via system error and had to reapply. Took me longer than the five days! Gah!
As far as I know though, short of having an actual credit card (which not everyone can apply for!) all other banks’ debit cards don’t work with Paypal or can be used to purchase stuff off the internets. I found this out the hard way (Yep, BPI doesn’t work… nor does BDO) and only Unionbank’s debit card can be used to buy stuff online (I’m still waiting for BDO to catch up!!! Not happening anytime soon, unless the number of inquiries about Paypal there gets really intense!)
Hmmm. I thought getting the EOn card was easy. It turns out iba ibang time frame for different branches. The branch I went to said I had to wait three long weeks or more to get the card. What’s up with that? Hahay.
Does anyone have a “ACH Withdrawal Denied” email problem from paypal?
I now can’t transfer funds from paypal to my eon account, it says “Invalid Account Information” even if it is verified already and worked alright in the last 2 months I’ve been using it.
I tried it twice, each time it cost me P250.00. The money just went back to paypal.
I tried emailing unionbank through their cyber account, it took them 7 days to reply. They just ask what’s my account number. I’m expecting it’ll take another 7 days for them to reply my email again. Typical lousy pinoy customer service.

Through card ba (using the card number) or through bank account (using your account number)?
Di ko pa nararanasan na magkaproblema ang pagtransfer ko ng money since na verified ang paypal.
or baka may problem nanaman ang eon and paypal now. kakawithdraw ko palang last week eh at nakuha ko na rin.

It’s been 11 days now and unionbank still didnt reply my email. I guess they won’t anymore.
I called the branch where I got my card today, the guy just said that he can’t access paypal in their office. He directed me to the customer support email again. He did check my account, it was fine. And he’s right, I was able to withdraw money from it through atm machine yesterday. It’s just that account info is the problem. He told me to write paypal and ask for the specific invalid info. I wrote paypal, I’m not sure if paypal knows, though. I’ll just have to wait.
I went searching, I came across a blog that said, Unionbank’s Eon was just the only one that can verify accounts but after it is verfied, you are free to add any bank in the Philippines and use it to withdraw money from paypal. Is this true? I’m not testing it though, P250.00 is too much for experiment.
i have my EON and i already tried withdrawing my money from paypal.. okay po sya 2 to 3 days lng naman yung transfer..
to eu: “ACH Withdrawal Denied.” this is the same problem I had and it hurts twice coz i made another attempt to withdraw and lost P 500.00 in the process. I had successful withdrawals prior to this. I do not know the cause of this problem and I am now wary of withdrawing my PayPal funds again.
Unionbank customer service is crap! They don’t know what to do! I do not want another P250.00 experiment
They’re now asking for a transaction password…wherein I’ve been blocked because I don’t remember it being there. Now that I’ve asked to have it reset, it has been blocked again because the instructions on the email and what I see on the screen don’t match. It still won’t accept the default password given to me.
Also…the customer service is so hard to contact! I’ve been on hold for centuries already!

My EON Card is still denied by paypal for about 3 months, I already deposited to my eon card and reflected in their online banking. I already sent mail to Unionbank but they did not reply.

I have been using my eon account with Unionbank for a few months now.
Things to do to make it work –
Withdraw to account – not card – it is much faster – around 5 days.
Deposit a couple of hundred pesos into the account when you first pick up your card – zero balance accounts cannot be withdrew into from PayPal.
If you forget your Transaction Password – don’t bother emailing Unionbank – even from within your account – only customer support hotline can help you, and they suck bigtime.

vHiNZ, your problem is with Unionbank. I had that same problem and it gotten solve quickly cuz I went to their branch and have the restrictions lifted. They can check it in their system whether is blocked or not.
My new Eon card is now blocked by paypal cuz I entered a wrong expuse number and clicked “back” button on my browser that made it resulted as 3 tries. It’s my stupid mistake, but nonetheless, Paypal is so strict that even leaving money in your paypal account is not advisable as they could block your account for no good reason and without warnings.
oooooppppzzz im verified na hehehe mali lang pala ung expiration number ko toinks haha it really makes me laugh after kong marealize what the hell 9/11? i was thinking my card will expire next year that’s why every time i add my card i choose 09 and then 2009 bcoz thats what i know then pano kaya kung itry ko 2011? baka ma blocked ako(1st thing comes to my mind) and then bahala na!(desperado na eh) then hit save! voila! im verified na at exactly 6:50pm haha wew!

I just want to share my experience with Union bank’s EON account.
Applying and having the card verified was no problem but when I tried to withdraw the funds from PayPal. It showed that the transaction was completed. I even got the conversion is Peso. I waited 5-7 banking days and yet until now Union Bank and PayPal is trying to figure out why the funds did not credit to my EON card. I even called PayPal to request for a trace.
Just a tip never try to email Union Bank. It will take decades for you to get a response. I even emailed them a screen shot of the completed transaction from PayPal. I suggest that you call 841-8600 (wait for 30 minutes) BUT good luck if they can resolve the issue right away. They would always say that they already escalated it to the concerned department. Yeah right!! Their supervisor can’t even give me a call. But one representative called me on my mobile to ask for the transaction code PayPal issued. After getting the code, the agent said “Thank you for the information, Have a great day!”. THAT’S CUSTOMER SERVICE!! don’t you agree?
Well I guess there is nothing else I can do but wait and be patient since PayPal gets in touch every few days.

@Ryan Ano bang gamit mo? kasi diba dalawang options ang pwede mong gamitin using your EON account
1) EON through card (card #)
2) EON bank account (bank account #)
ako ang gamit ko ay bank account, sa tuwing magwwithdraw ako walang mintis na nakukuha ko ang pera within two days.
so i suggest kung gagamit ka ng EON, ung bank account number na lang ang gamitin mo at hindi ung card number.
Madali lang naman i-add yun.

Been using the internet as my source of income writing articles..i had accumulated 100 dollars on my paypal account and transferred it to unionbank bank last oct 3..hanggang ngaun ala pa ring binibigay ang unionbank..mga bwisit cila…na transfer na ng paypal yung pera ko sa unionbank pero hanggang ngaun hindi binibigay ng unionbank..been trying to send them emails pero unavailable na customer service nila..bwisit talaga..
wag na kaung gumamit ng unionbank sa pag transfer ng pera nyo from paypal..
yung mga government personnel walang ma loan dahil ang banko na ginamit ng gsis ay unionbank…

I emptied out na my Unionbank account because their new verification process (when you log in) is a pain in the neck. Customer service is useless…they make you wait so long on the phone that you’d get pissed in record time.
I’m just happy that bank accounts (BPI etc) can now transact with PayPal so after I transferred my money to BPI, an INFINITELY MORE RELIABLE BANK, I closed my Unionbank account.
This only shows how inutile unionbank is..They thought that since they were the pioneering bank here in the Phils. to offer paypal conversion they are already indispensable..but SORRY Unionbank you are NOT INDISPENSABLE but a pain in the ass..
NEVER USE UNIONBANK for they will take your hard earned money like a thief in the night…they have no explanations why you could not received your cash..all their customer service access are closed or temporarily unavailable..
And to think that our BELOVED government trusted them with government personnel’s security services..No wonder many retirees never received their retirement benefits on time..no wonder a lot of their members could not file a calamity loan to fix their typhoon devastated houses..no wonder retiree families get hungry because of delayed pensions..plus a lot of wanderings…

HI guys, I still haven’t received my withdrawal last sept 18 from paypal to EON credit card and paypal is no longer answering while a supervisor told me they have no way of tracing the money because they are only the receiving end and the problem daw must be from paypal to visa…it’s already more than 2 months now!! pls help!
Whoaa!! This blog is very useful but at the same time I am getting headaches with all the fuss on EON.

Hi there Lai. You can’t withdraw your money without getting your account verified first. I have heard that getting an EON card has been hard nowadays, we’re lucky to got into it first :-)

Ive been using eon for paypal for a year now and have withdrawn money from it quite a few times then yesterday my boss payed me via paypal and so accepted the payment. Its weird that I was not able to withdraw the money to my card so I checked my settings and i found out that the card’s expiration date is already up. It expired october of 2008. Well there was this option to set a new expiration date and so I did.. then this message appeared and in red
This credit card has been denied by the bank that issued your credit card. For details on why your card was denied, please contact your credit card issuer’s customer service department. Or, you may want to try adding a different credit card.
What happened? Does anyone have any experience similar to this? I will be checking on this site again to see if theres anyone here with the same story. I really need my money. Other options I have of course is to add another debit card but that would take time if it means applying for another card so not really one option Im willing to try. Who here have been using eon for some time now and who has had problems with the debit card’s expiration date? Is paypal going to withdraw another $ 1.95 dollar before they again accept my card. It didnt say that my card is blocked anyway so Im hoping that tomorrow if I find anyone here who can help Id be able to try again.
@Gen: When you EON card expires, you will have to renew it at UnionBankPH. They will then issue you with a new EON card — the card number will be different from your expired card. Enter that new card number in your PayPal account. It should work.
No i mean the expiration date of my card in paypal! I think I may have entered the wrong expiration date there so to all those who havent entered their debit card details in paypal yet make sure you enter the right one! I set mine just for a year so now paypal is not letting me withdraw money to my card.
Good thing eon is not just a debit card, its also a savings account. I removed my debit card and added it as a bank account using the account number this time and i was able to withdraw the money! Thanks though bob for replying to my post!
hmmmm, my paypal to EON has been working great for almost a year now, i posted something here like i think around march. Anyway, ever since my prob verifying it, no probs until now…i hope im just being impatient of getting my cash. here’s the thing. i have been withdrawing cash everyweek for almost a year and like i said, everything was smooth, i get it every 3 days…but just last Jan. 1, i withdrew a few hundred again, and still, i dont have it yet…i know it was a holiday…but from banks are open last Jan. 5 already…and i still havent recieved my cash…hmmm..hopefully im just being impatient…since it should take 5-7 days…just weird…oh and also, has anybody tried withdrawing to a BPI card?…i havent heard of anyone having successful BPI withdrawals..if anyone has, let me know please…thanks

BPI withdrawal works great. Shifted there when I was having difficulty with UnionBank’s customer service and I’ve had enough. I think mas mura kesa mag-withdraw to your EON.
So ok you have setup your paypal using your eon. You now want to start shopping. So how do you add funds to your paypal account?

@Lyn YES. You need to apply for a new EON card. This time, you need to deposit at least 200 or 300 pesos. basta kelangan ng $1.95 or $1.98 ata un. basta di lalagpas ng 2 dollars. Para sure 500 na ilagay mo. hehehe.

@lyn – i dont think you need a new card if on first try it gets denied. my card was denied several times, i posted it here i think around march under PAOLO CORTEZ. load your card have it FULLY VERIFED and it will work okay.
Just wanna ask guys, i had some problem regarding my EON Card.
Here’s the thing, the name shown on my card is my mom’s, cause that time i don’t have any I.D when i applied, so my mom got the card for me. And the name on my Paypal account is mine. Would i still be able to use my mom’s EON Card? Hope someone could reply asap. Thanks.
@Patrick I believe you can’t. You need to create a PayPal account for your mother, with the exact name of your mom and address in the EON bank details and the details you are gonna put in the PayPal. dapat pareho sila.

well i tried using my mom’s EON card and deposited 500 pesos, well actually it worked. The next problem is the 4 digit code. How would i be able to get that code? and would i still wait for a couple of days for the code?

Login to your EON account via http://www.unionbankph.com and check on your Transaction History. The verification code is next to the item that refers to the test amount debited from your EON. Else, contact their customer hotline and ask for the code.

that was surprisng to hear that it worked…well maybe because it is a valid card but then i think you might encounter problems later on…or like maybe getting the 4 digit…because it should have the same info as the account registered with paypal. Just to make sure, just make an account under your moms name, take out the EON on your paypal, and register it under the new account with your mom’s name on it. ONly takes less than 5 min to make an account for your mom, and since you’ll be the one using the card anyway, i dont see any probs with it.

Anyway, call UnionBank’s customer hotline and ask for the Expanded Use Number/EXPUSE (or the four digit number) or login to your online account. If ever wala ka pang online account, enroll ka muna para ma access mo.

Never withdraw to the card!!!
The fastest times to receive money from PayPal is before 5PM on a Saturday, make a withdraw “to bank account” and by Tuesday you will have it. Don’t bother asking any help from the CSRs at Union Bank either. They have no idea what a “PayPal” is (as if it were some form of Philippine department store)and most of them have never used a computer outside of the office other then to text message someone. I have been transferring fund from PayPal to my EON account very successfully for the past 12 months. Most transfers have been more then P10,000/wk.

BEWARE of UNION BANK!
The 24 hour customer service is non existent! You send an email and you get a response after 2 months if ever you get one.
I have been using eon for a year. It works but if you have a problem you are on your own. Now we have other options for paypal such as offline banks.
This probably explains why this thread is so long. Customers are looking for support somewhere else. hehehe.

In case I received a payment through PayPal and I want to withdraw the money or deposit to my existing bank account like BDO, will it work? Can I enroll my BDO account as a recipient account for funds transfer from PayPal?
@sefred7 Yes, you may withdraw your PayPal funds to be credited to your BDO account. Tried it last week, took only 4 working days and the funds is already credited to my BDO account — faster than withdrawing from PayPal then to your UnionBankPH EON (still waiting for the amount to be credited to my EON, done on the same date I made a withdrawal to my BDO).
@Bob Reyes have you tried adding your bank account in Unionbank? It’s faster that way than via the card. Sa akin two days lagi, nagrereflect na kagad sa atm ko. :)

im having a hard time on my union bank EON account linking it to my paypal. i got my fresh and new Eon last week,with funds in it,and its fully activated.
everytime i try to get verified/link and confirm my debit card, i always get this error

i’ve been calling union bank from time to time,and it seems they cant help me with my problem, anyone know how can i resolve this?
