Two Problems With The Unionbank EON-Paypal Setup
Posted by Jozzua on Oct 20, 2007 in Uncategorized • 115 commentsAfter chatting with people who have tried out the new Unionbank EON and Paypal setup for getting money online, I’ve learned of two general problems with it.
1. PayPal doesn’t always accept the Unionbank EON card. Users need to verify to get the full benefits of PayPal. A web designer friend tried to verify her PayPal account by registering an EON card on it. When she did, she received an error message indicating that her card was denied.

In a chat with a fellow technorepreneur, I was told that one needs to have some credit history with their cards before they have the cards register.
“You have to use the card both offline and online. Fill it up with cash and get yourself a transaction history.” He explained.
My web designer friend apparently used a totally fresh new EON card. Thus, she was denied.
2. It takes more than 5-7 days to transfer money from PayPal to Unionbank EON.
My technopreneur buddy tried to get some money from Unionbank EON. He transferred some cash from PayPal to EON. It was initially thought the this would only take 5-7 days. The currency was converted to pesos and took more than two weeks. My friend discovered that the transaction process wasn’t really smooth. This would annoy those people who really need the money instantly.
Despite these problems, we still look forward to using this combo. If it works, Pinoys can take advantage of many online income opportunities. We predict that this getting money online through PayPal will vastly improve in a year’s time.
UPDATE:
Over at Unionbankph.com, you can see that Paypal is now prominently displayed.

awww so that’s the reason why my enrollment was denied
Their customer service should’ve been informed since they are really lost about this particular issue
Enrollment? You mean you also tried to verify your card Amy?
I have had a Unionbank credit card for some time already - you know why/how, Jozzua!
I wonder if my credit history there would carry over to EON. I don’t have a Unionbank savings account, though.
i just verified my paypal account using HSBC Visa credit card. ok naman. i haven’t applied for EON yet.
Marhgil, update me when you have transferred money from PayPal to HSBC. If it works, I’ll get an HSBC as well.
Migs, the EON card is a Visa debit card. I’m not sure if your credit history can be transferred to a debit card.
[...] Jozzoa shares some growing problems with Union Bank’s EON Card with Paypal. Looks like it’s not as easy or as quick others initially thought it was. [...]
i have UnionBank EON Debit Card … ok naman sa akin na verify. Before you verify dapat may laman ang debit card mo. bago palang yung card ko then i try to verify it. ang history lang ata ng EON ko ay pagdeposit at some withdrawal. around 1-2weeks lang.
Peru indi kopa na try mag transfer from Paypal to EON. wala pa laman ng aking Paypal. hehe.
The “Use your UnionBank cards with PayPal” image was always in their site even before PayPal allowed residents of the Philippines to accept payments. It makes sense that you need to have a “transaction history” first before you add your EON to your PayPal account.

Heads up…
Just want to share my successful withdrawal from paypal to my unionbank eon card.
this entry is an answer to my questions. although, you pointed out those two problems, which i think will be addressed as time goes by.
i have already been receiving payments in my paypal account and i was clueless as to how i am going to withdraw the money. until i stumbled upon your blog (through bloghopping from phil laptop.com).
thanks!
How about BPI Express Cash Cards ? (Or money cards ba tawag doon?) They’re the one that come in 4 flashy colors (orange, red, blue and yellow). If I’m not mistaken, they have the mastercard or visa logo. Anybody tried enrolling a BPI card with Paypal ?
reg EON card.. baka naman di pa activated you card. a teller told me that upon recieving the card you still have to wait for 1 week for the card to be activated..
yes im trying to verify my paypal account using the EON. I got the same message as problem#1.
So, ganun pala. Kapag fresh a ung card mo hindi applicable for paypal.
Jaydj - Hindi nila tatanggapin ung BPI Express Cash. Sabi sa BPI hindi pwede yan for international with in the Philippines lang.
sweet,
balitaan mo naman kami pag ok na ang eon card mo at nakapag transfer ka na from Paypal to Eon card mo.
mag libre ka rin! hehehe joke…
Sabi ng UNION bank dapat may laman ung card mo may deposit. Tapos i follow up mo sa union bank ung full activation ng card mo. 3-5 working days daw. Pero i follow up mo. After 5-7 working days.
hello everyone,
just want to share… i applied for my eon last oct 25 online (i learn from this site about the eon, thanks jozzua!), got it after 5 working days and deposited Php 500 (again following the tip from this site), i enrolled my account online in their website, and then i read about sweet’s comment saying to follow up for the activation of the card. i called their customer service, they told me that i should call the branch where i got my card for the activation. the branch told me na my card will be activated by monday. today i check on my account online since the site said that after 2 days you can already access the account online. True enough i can access my account and i was able to enroll my card in my paypal account.
Will try to withdraw from my paypal to the card and will update you.
Again, thanks for the tips.
Thanks for the tip Sweet. I have to call unionbank now to give me the PayPal 4-digit number to finalize my verification. (Didn’t occur to me to do that).
Milette, good luck! Keep us updated.
Hi every body! Eto final na! Tinaning ko ung UNION BANK branch na kinuhanan ko ng card ko i ask if fully activated na yung card ko. They told oo daw. Then nilagay ko na yung card number ko sa PAYPAL and it works. Tapos before ko ma withdraw yung money i verify nila ulit 5 working days pa ang aabutin bago nila ipadala ung 4 digit code para sa expanded limit mo sa paypal. kapag nakuha mo na yun ok na ung pera mo ma withdraw mo na.
TANDAAN:
1. Lagyan ng laman ang card kahit 100.
4. HABAAN ANG PASENSYA!!!!
GOOD LUCK!
Hi everyone, in regards to the expanded code, mas mabilis kung naka-activate yung online banking nyo tapos pagkasubmit nyo ng eon card number sa paypal, send kau ng email sa inyong union bank relationship manager using the email provided inside your online account. Less than 24 hours verified paypal account holder na kau
hi! this was very helpful to me, i got my new eon card, my problem is when im about to add a card i can’t find the last 3 digit security pin at the back of my card. guys what should i do?
any tip on how did you add your eon card in your paypal account
the three digit number is on the form that was given to you when you received your eon card. it’s the CVV, the number under your PIN number.
guys,
just an update, the money i have withdrawn from paypal have appeared in my online eon account na.
again, thank you all for the tip.
Update on EON and Paypal
@mil3tt3 thanks,
btw has anyone tried it in metrobank credit card?
anyway just a comment paypal and unionbank should fix there customer service and speed up the processing of transactions. think of it guys we’re on the internet it should be faster.
good day everyone
Great work Milette!
Bio Active, haven’t tried out metrobank yet.
bioactive,
my previous metrobank credit card with the visa logo can accept withdrawal but my current one with a mastercard logo can’t.
jozzua…i owe you a coffee
i’ll be giving it to you in the near future and that’s a promise! thanks a lot!
[...] days back, I was lurking into Jozzua’s two problems with the unionbank eon-paypal setup and it’s healthy discussion in the comments area. They’ve been talking about [...]
What if you tried adding it to PayPal even without knowing that its activated?
thanks for all these info. very helpful. =) just applied for EON account today as my old Paypal account became a limited account after trying to transfer the funds to Xoom. =( goodbye to $200. Hopefully, following all your tips, once I get my EON card, I’d be able to have a success story in transferring my Paypal funds to my EON card. =)
thanks thanks so much!
@Eja
Paypal won’t allow you to add it if it isn’t activated. Call the customer service hotline if you’re not sure that it’s activated.
1. When I get my new EON card at my preferred branch, I’ll deposit some money into it. (btw, I’ve wanted to ask for a long time if I could make it into a dollar account or not). Then I wait for it to be activated and then I ask for the expanded code. Would depositing money to it be all the “transaction history” I need or do I still need to use the card somewhere, like in a mall, before I can verify it with paypal?
[Is the eon card accepted in NBS, coz, I'm afraid that's the only place I can use it without wasting or splurging too much, unlike in a clothes shop or something. heehee]
As in on the day I get my card?
All in all po, kung bago yung card, how long will it take before I could use the card in ebay?
Thank you po at sorry ang dami kong tanong..
kyonpon
Yan ay hindi ko na masasgot sayo!!! RE: Dollar account ba yan?
Kailangan mo pa tanungin ung branch if fully activated na ung card mo. Tsaka ka pwede mag withdraw for local transaction. Good luck!
I just got my EON card today.XD I asked the teller if I could deposit to my account in dollars but she said I cannot. Oh well. So I went home worried because all my dollars might sell for less.. I went and searched for a bank which accepts dollars for a credit card and found none. Sorry. This may sound stupid for some but I’m a newbie in this credit card business. ehehe.^^
And then I saw the Union Bank “e-wallet” account.. and read that all fees in it would be deducted from your savings account. So I thought, why not open a dollar-savings account and get an e-wallet?
This time, I was “smart” enough to call customer service first to confirm. I then found out that e-wallet is only connected to the “peso-savings account” and not the dollar account because the dollar account doesn’t have ATM access.
It was futile.
So for those who have dollars thinking to open an EON or any paypal-possible credit card and wanting to shop online, I suggest you convert it to peso already while the exchange rate is still going at 43 to 42. Who knows it might go down to 41 someday. Buhuhu.T_T I should’ve used it back when it was still 45-50Php.T_T
have a problem with the cyber eon’s activation process. got my card monday and i registered it sa unionbank online page. sabi two days lang daw pwede ko na access yung account online kaso 3rd na for today di pa rin ma access online. tapos ni reject din sa paypal kasi i have to call my bank daw. so i called up unionbank’s customer service and was told to contact the branch. i called the branch sabi i need to wait 7 days para ma fully activate yung account ko. told me something about restrictions din. so i still need to wait til next week so i can apply it for paypal and access it online ??????
to yeayea:
Did you deposite money in your account first? Well if you did, your card will be automatically activated and all you have to do is register at UnionBank CyberAccount page then after a few days (three days for me), I was able to access my cyberaccount. After that, I attached my card to PayPal and it worked. I just used the email feature of my cyberaccount to email the customer service representative to get my EXPUSE number.
I did a withdrawal on November 13th. It showed a completed on the 14th on the Paypal screen but as of now, it still isn’t showing in my Eon Account.
I think it’s kind of important to keep posting about experiences until some sort of a general time frame emerges. I’ll come back and post when it does appear.
@Louis
My own experience with Unionbank has been rife with headaches that posting the comment here would take up too much space. I kind of wasted around 41 days with Unionbank already…what with all the trials and errors I’ve gone through. And it’s not over yet…
I did blog about it, though:
http://skysenshi.multiply.com/journal/item/295/Unionbank…ARGH
Looks like Unionbank isn’t really ready for PayPal yet.
PayPal works with UnionBankPH EON
Read on at http://www.bobreyes.com/myblog/?p=528
Err. Yes ROb, we know.. but it still has some problems. Perhaps you have not seen my blog post about it. It was posted over a month ago.
Yeah, it works, but there is this problem that for some people it is taking only a few days and others are waiting more than 2 weeks. This huge discrepancy is what is showing that they are having a hard time dealing with it. It should be universally taking the same amount of time.
@ Eja:
hi. which customer rep did you email to get your EXPUSE number? is it the one from Unionbank? what’s their email add.. i just added my eon account to paypal and was notified that i’ll get the 4 digit number after four days/ or from a bank form.
tnx…
Inside your EON/Unionbank online banking page there is a place to send a bank email. It took just a couple of hours for them to reply and send my expanded use number.
Replying about where my money is takes them infinitely longer.
@ yeayea.
Mr. Louis already answered your question. That’s what I did.
tsk tsk tsk My confidence is a bit shaken. My wife called Unionbank. They see the Paypal withdrawal made on the 23rd of November, but not the withdrawal made on the 13th. They say they have no record of it. They said they would check the float department and advised us to contact them in 5 to 7 business days to see where it is.
About the withdrawal on the 23rd, they said they can see it in their system, but it will take up to 11 business day to credit to the account.
I have posted this comment to a thread on my blog as well.
Withdrawing Paypal to Unionbank
Will it be more expensive (deductions) if you use Xoom instead of EON to withdraw your PayPal money?
Xoom is more expensive and I heard they are not allowing intra-country transfers.
Update on Unionbank Withdrawal. The withdrawal from November 13th is still not showing though the one from November 23rd posted yesterday evening. This means a trip to bank branch to find out exactly what happened to the withdrawal of $120.
Step 1: Go to https://ebanking.unionbankph.com/EbankEON/sgonHttpHandler.aspx?Action.EONUser.Init.001=Y&AppSignonBankId=UBP&AppType=EON and click the “ENROLL HERE” link.
Wait 2-3 banking days for processing.
Step: 2 Go to your nearest unionbank branch, bring valid ID’s and get your EON card and pay Php350.
Note: As soon as you got your EON card, deposit some money on your EON account at least 200 pesos.
Step 3: Sign up in PAYPAL. Enter your valid card no. and last 3 digit at the back of your card.
Wait 3-4 days.
Step 4: As soon as you got your transaction history in your EON online account. Besisde the paypal logo you will see the 4 digit number. Go to paypal and enter the 4 digit # and get verified.
Now you’re done! Enjoy shopping online!
@Louis
I want to know what happens to you next… This is getting scary…
My Paypal Withdrawal Experience
I updated the comment on my blog, but here is the deal:
So the withdrawal on the 23rd posted to the account on the 27th. The withdrawal from the 13th of November has still not posted and UnionBank is still giving the run around. It’s obvious that it’s been lost and no one will do anything.
I need help again. I tried sending $230 USD to my friend through paypal using my eon account. I used the “send money” option, entered her email address, clicked on services, placed the amount and then submitted it. What I got was an error message saying: This payment cannot be funded with a credit card at this time.
So where’s the problem here? Paypal or EON?
And some more help on this one please: About a week ago, since it was my first time with paypal, I sent $1 to my friend (again) as a trial and got an error saying that my session has timed out. But when I checked my EON transaction history, I was already deducted Php 50.00 (It seems Php 50-$1 was the exchange rate at that time because of the Trillanes incident.) I tried sending $1 once again and this time, I was successful. I also got deducted Php 50.00 for that one. Days later, I looked at my transaction history and saw that there was a Php 42.57 deduction (marked with PAYPAL*myfriend’s email address). I asked the CS and was given the full details of that transaction. It seems that the Php 42.57 deduction was due to that $1 I sent. Can you guys confirm that EON truly deducts money from your account if the transaction wasn’t done within ebay. Please.T_T And that’s like.. what, 85%?
Hello!
I got my eon card yesterday and im happy to have it in a short period of time.
I forgot to ask something to a bank employee like..
what is my 16 digit number that appear in my card and the 12 number appear under my name..
does the atm card number is different to my account number? if someone send me money or deposit what number should i give for..? is it the 12 number or the 16?
sorry for my ignorance.. hope you give me idea!
@hello: the 16 digit number on your card is your CARD NUMBER, whereas the 12 digit one is your EON ACCOUNT NUMBER. You use the EON ACCOUNT NUMBER when depositing to your account in a UBPH branch, you use the CARD NUMBER when transacting online.
@bob -Thanks for the info.. it really helps! got my eon card yesterday, and Union bank attendant say it will activated in 24hours.. i apply the card to online banking and it says wait for 48 hours to be activated.. out of curiosity, i go to my pay pal account and try to get verified(expuse)using my eon card:(( and it says denied! i got to atm machine if my card is activated so i will deposit money.. but seems its not yet activated.. balance inquiry still not accesible..
any idea what happens
@hello: wait for 48 hours, if after that it is still not activated, call them.
Okay its done now waitng for the 4digit number… thanks bob!
its now my 5th day and stil no 4didgit (expuse) response to my mail. i email them using unionbank mail service, and stil no reply.. i tried to call the hotline 84186 but stil in busy tone.. Any advice
@ hello:
Email them using the built-in email feature in your Unionbank EON CyberAccount.
That’s what I did.
Oh, you really have to have a great deal of PATIENCE with you if you are to use the Paypal-Eon Card combo. As for me, i almost lost all the patience i have inside my treasure chest. The inefficiency of Union Bank’s personnel are staggering. Imagine, when i picked my card up, i was told the card would be activated by noon that day. So i waited, and waited, and waited. I waited until the following week but Paypal still denied the card. I have to make several calls to their CS and have make several visits to the bank. The card was finally activated after 2 weeks. And i still have to endure the long process of waiting before i can finally try getting the funds from my paypal account to EON. hayyyyyy….
And you wouldn’t believe this, i’ve been waiting for more than two weeks now for the money to be available with the card. Geezzzz…. I think a week more and i will have a heart attack with all these hassles… Grrrr
I AM officially scared applying my eon card to paypal. waaaaaa.
JOZZZUA!
This is what I did so far:
1) When I got my eon card (nilagyan ko sya ng 150 pesos) from Unionbank , just like the teller told me, wait for three working days for my eon card to be activated. On the third day, i called up the branch and the teller told me that my eon card is activated. So i was like, “WEEEE!”
2)I enrolled my eon card to Unionbank’s site, then after I filled-up the form, etc., the last page says, i have to wait for two days.
Good luck to me. So tatry ko lang siya bukas kung pwede na mag log in, right?
Tanong pa isa, so pag fully activated na yung eon card ko, i-eenroll ko na siya sa paypal right? Tapos ‘di pa rin un verified dahil wait for 5days ulit?
Thank you! Mabuhay kayo! hehehe.
Mina, dont worry so much. I dont suggest using Eon unless you have no other option and so it is better than nothing. Expect things to wait. I think some withdrawals get held up just because they want to hold on to them.
Most of the withdrawal occur in about 4 to 5 days, but there are occasional ones that get lost for a while. I know its no consolation, but they eventually put the money on your account and if this is your only option then are getting what you normally couldn’t have.
There is definite demand for an easy to use Visa Debit card that can be used easily with paypal and other online places. I am surprised a bank hasn’t really seized on it. Hundreds of blogs would come out in support on them and they could get thousands of new customers.
hi! How do you transfer money from paypal to EON? How much is the conversion rate of the currency? is there a fee being charged?
I got my eon card last friday-Jan18,then the teller told me tom(Jan19) pa daw pde gamitin un card. I tried to enroll it thru paypal kso denied,.so i called cut servce, sbi need daw atleast 100php deposit in my accnt and so I did kanina lang (Jan21).
Now lang,I tried to use it to verify my paypal, kso denied pa din,so I called ulet cust service, sbi daw may restrictions daw un card ko,call daw ako sa unionbank branch to lift the restrictions, nung tumawag ako sa branch sabi sken, kung may restrictions ang card mo hindi pa yan activated wait daw ako until wednesday before it is fully activated,..EH BAKIT NILA AKO SINABIHAN NUNG PAGKUHA KO PALANG NUNG CARD NA 24 HRS LANG EH ACTIVATED NA YUNG CARD KO…AT SABI NG CUST SERVICE SAKIN FROM 84186 EH ACTIVATED DAW YUN CARD KO PERO MAY RESTRICTIONS,..WAT THE HELL,MAY GANUN BA?!DIBA KAPAG ACTIVATED NA IBIG SABIHIN YOU CAN USE IT NA..BAKIT MAY RESTRICTIONS EK EK PA SILA…
DAPAT JAN BEFORE YOU APPLY FOR EON,SABIHIN NA NILA YUNG MGA CONS AND INSTRUCTIONS! THE HELL PAHIRAPAN PA SILA,ALL THEY DO IS ACCEPT CUSTOMERS FOR EON BUT THEN YUN SERVICE NILA BULOK!
Haayy, same problem din ako, got my eon card last jan 15 then enrolled it on EON online(wait daw 48 hours to access account), then i tried it today for paypal pero denied pa rin. I called the branch last week pa to verify if activated na, activated na daw. I guess it needs a few more days
Pre, matatapos na siguro yung napakahabang list ng comments dito sa post mo since paypal now allows withdrawals to Philippine Bank accounts. Thanks to paypal, di na ko mapapagod kakaview ng post mo tuwing may new comment….hehe
http://www.kontrapelo.com/2008/01/26/withdraw-paypal-to-banks-in-the-philippines/
Till now di ko pa rin ma-add sa paypal ang EON ko kainis na!!! called the hotline told me restricted din, then called the branch, told me to wait max of a week, i-relay daw ang problem sa cebu branch pa while i applied at greenhills lang!!!
I finally know why some people are not able to add there EON card to paypal… eto ung reason…
upon receiving my card last 23(or 22, im not really sure) ask ko agad ung pinagkuhaan kng kelan cia mgiging active..sagot: “mga 2 to 3 days, o kaya try mu icheck sa atm machine pag pinakita n ung balance, means active n”…okay, i then deposit 500 and after like 2 days, i finally got to check my balance thru an atm machine(also dun sa acct ko online kita n rin cia)..After that i tried to add it to my paypal acct and guess what, the famous “denied” statement appears. i have read this blog way bfore i got my card and some people will just for a few days to have it added to paypal.. so i wait 3 days, and to my surprise, again the famous “denied” statement. ok, pwede p naman me maghintay, so i ignore. BUT, when i try to withdraw my money trhu an ATM machine, i was not able to. I tried every megalink ATM and was not ble to withdraw(i also tried to use there own atm). to my freaking disappointment u called the cs. here’s the answer. “sir yung card acct nio eh for “DEBIT ACCOUNT” lang, means pwede kau mag deposit pero hindi kau pwede magw/draw”, then im just “WTF!!!!!!”. sabi ng cs call the branch where i got the card regarding this, so i did..
here’s what they told me: “sir upon checking “NAKAFREEZE” po ung acct nio sir, cguro hndi pa nrrcv sa cebu ung application paper nio kaya ganun “….
final conclusion,
Okay sana ung eon card eh.. ung bank ang my prob kc they dont explain well ung process..
real process
1 sign up online
2 get the card on your specified branch
pay Php350 for the visa membership deposit some money for the paypal($1.95)
3 log in online(it will take 2 days for you to access)
4 after the fact that you can login online and see your deposit, call the branch directly regarding dun sa activation, it will be better kung imention mo ung about sa cebu n sinasabi nila pag nagkprob k n at hindi s araw n knuha mu ung card.
after this, viola!!!
ok n cia
kakatawag ko lang sabi by this afternoon mgagamit ko n daw…
wish me luck!!!!
I doubt na may gagamit pa ng eon for paypal account transactions, lalo na ngayong available na ang fund transfer sa local banks, my transaction was completed in 2 days even though they say its 5-7 days(although when i checked the balance of my bank account wla pa ung funds from paypal).
Still the crappy service from eon and the amount of fees( local bank transfer fees are extremely cheap)
makes it a lose-lose situation for eon
P100 is not enough to cover the PayPal verification (expuse)which is re-imbursed to you later upon using the account to buy/pay.
Deposit P200 and it will be up and running to withdraw your PayPal funds into it.
Gamitin nyo yung iba nyong credit card in order to verify like sa HSBC ba,,,and then pag na verified na kayo ng paypal….yan EON gamitin nyo na lang yan in order to withdraw money from paypal….
Ok after reading all the horror comments on verifying PayPal with EON I finally decided to right something.
I got my EON card yesterday (Feb. 21) deposited Php100.00, the teller said it’s activated but when I got home and decided to verify it with PayPal I was “DENIED” to my surprise after they said it was already activated
Googled what’s happening on EON and PayPal verification and reads tons of blog about the horror story…then I read something about enrolling for your EON to their Cyber Acct. I finally got my login username and password working so I decided again to try my luck but to my surprise I was denied AGAIN.
So after reading your post and all those comments here I think is what left for me to do…
1. Wait for 1 week or so to get my EON fully activated or call the branch if it is FULLY ACTIVATED.
2. Verify EON Card (if successful, if not repeat step 1 until you die of waiting)
3. Email them using your own cyber account for your EXPUSE No. or I think you can see it on your Transaction History.
4. Put the EXPUSE and all is set.
Tama ba?
@ LA you might want to click on my URL for my successful story.
oh btw, i deposited 150 pesos.
Good luck!
Uhm why Php 150.00? $1.95 is only Php 80.00 if you converted it in Peso, I don’t think so I read some comments above telling that they got verify even after being denied I think you just have to wait until your EON gets fully activated.
And about getting a new EON, I haven’t heard any (real and confirmed) news about that besides I don’t think the bank would give another EON account holding your name on it.
P.S - Sorry about ranting in wrong grammar ^above^ LOL
Update
EON replied thru my Cyber Acct. email after asking what happen to my PayPal verification being denied.
“Dear Mr. L.A,
The reason for this is because your EON account is still restricted. We have forwarded your concern to our pertinet unit and requested for lifting of restriction.
Regards,
Internet Security”
Uhm…so I really have to wait until this thing gets lift.
Hi L.A.,
Please update us about Eon account being denied, I have that same problem and got the same response from Unionbank customer service today.
I have no idea when will that restriction will be lifted. I don’t know why there are even restrictions while others never have them.
You need to have at least PhP150 for your EON card to be activated (and therefore usable for PayPal purposes). They inform you of this when you enroll. It’s just not mandatory (you can get your card without giving the PhP150 initial balance) but you won’t be able to use your card.
Using the EON Card to verify with PayPal does take several days. But then again, this is the case with all credit cards if you’re going to verify them with PayPal.
I deposited P500 in my account and it showed in my cyber account before adding the card in my paypal.
I called the local branch where I got my card and the lady told me that my card was put on hold and that I’m supposed to get a (snail) mail from them thanking about the card. She told me to come to the branch on Monday and sign something, some sort of confirmation. WTF????
Not having a “transaction history” was my mistake, I would have known they placed it on hold.
@EU - Just wait for a few days after that you can try to link your PayPal and EON again, for me it took only 3 days but for other it took 5 days.
@ Micheal - You can deposit for as low as Php100, PayPal only needs $1.95 or Php 78-80 (current exchange rate $1 = Php 39-41)
i’m also having a problem with the linking up of my eon with my paypal account. i guess i just have to wait for a few more days.
i was trying to search whatz wrong with my EON card and then i was lead to this site (THANK YOU VERY MUCH)…anyway, i got my card last week…and since its the holy weeki had to wait longer…BUT…since the topic is 2 problems with unionbank…ill summarize it to TWO…1. THE BANK (OR THEIR WEBSITE) DIDNT TELL US (CUSTOMERS) THAT WHAT THEY MEAN BY “ACTIVATED NA PO ANG CARD MO SIR” IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM “FULLY ACTIVATED NA ANG CARD MO SIR”…WTF?!?…they use the same term but the first one has restrictions?!?…2. MOST OF THEIR “CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES” DOESNT KNOW A THING…i think they should get an EON and try paypal to see what we mean…anyway…i called the customer service, said my account is not yet “ACTIVE” and call again the next day…i called the following day…said my account is now “ACTIVE”…so i tried logging in to my account…it wasnt accepted…tried enrolling it at paypal…it was denied…had to call them again…this time…they said “ang pagkakaalam ko po down ang eon online namin ngayon”…called again the next day…”fully functional naman ang eon namin” and she DOESNT KNOW why i cant log in, so she got my info and gave me a reference number and that i should call after 2 days…i askedif i can alraedy use it for paypal…she said “YES”…i tried…as expected…DENIED…i called again…and finally…a guy knew what he was talking about…and told me about the restrictions…whew…all that just to get me verified at paypal…worth it?!?…i dont know…why?..coz im still waiting for my card to be “FULLY ACTIVATED”…after this…i am sending a letter to unionbank!
erratum *…and then i was LED to this site
good luck sa’yo!
hmmmm…went to the bank this morning…and i THANK their employees for being really nice…they sure know what they are talking about…they called somebody over the phone…passed the phone to me…talked to a BETH (which sure helped a lot, BETH ____ THANK YOU)…anyway, she said she will look into it and call me…got my number…she called me just now…and magic…i can log in now at EON and verified my paypal…finally…BUT still, MOST of the CSR of unionbank doesnt know what they are talking about….
Hi
Wala pang reply.
Thank you!
@BG tawag ka na lang sa kanila. mas mabilis un. first time kong makabasa ng ganitong problem so wala akong mabibigay sa’yong info.
good luck!
I got a problem in linking my eon card in paypal. There was a red notice above my paypal account like the screenshot u showed above but the notice was different. I mean, the written in red fonts are different. It says “We were unable to verify this credit card. Please check if the information you entered is correct. If the problem persists, please try to enter a different credit card.” What does it mean by this?
I think the link between UnionBankPH and Visa is down, as may EON is already verified by PayPal, and I always use it to buy stuff online until yesterday when the same error message “We were unable to verify this credit card. Please check if the information you entered is correct. If the problem persists, please try to enter a different credit card.”
@Bob OMG REALLY? This is a new issue that I have heard so far.
I stopped cashing out my paypal funds using the debit card, kasi ang ginagamit ko ngayon now ay through bank account.
pero ni rejct yung card mo? oh baka naman expired na? i have to search more about this.
thanks for sharing.
@Laarni : My card is still valid. I had tried using it since last night til now in several websites, and the same error keeps on showing. Trying to contact UnionBankPH call center now, but I’m still on hold for around 30 minutes now.
@Bob okay. Good luck.
Keep this page updated, okay? Thanks.
eon unionbank visa card rejected
hi guys, for those who had experiences with eon cybercard. how do you deposit? is it through an atm or through the teller. i have applied for an eon card back in december, told to wait for 2 weeks, after 2 weeks i called 2-4 weeks daw. after that i forgot all about it because i was busy with my job. now that i remembered, i got channeled pa to their cts(?) eon cebu trunkline to confirm. available na daw. so go na ako
ask ko lang ung how to fill the card up.
nice blog. thanks guys.
Humm… while reading some informations here it does make sense!
thanks to Jozzua you make things clear, ako naman halos medyo matagal na activated ang EON card ko, ang type ng pala ng card ko is Visa Electron coz I think mas ok siya dahil sa capabilities, meron na din akong na-ideposit na pera malaki-laki na din ever since na mahilig ako bumili sa mall gamit ang card ko.
pero here is my problem na I think hindi pa ninyo na-iincounter?
kasi wala pa akong nakikitang ganito dito, so here it is.
when I’m trying to verify my paypal using my EON Visa Electron theres a message above of it & the paypal says:
“We were unable to verify this credit card, Please check if the information you entered is correct. if the problem persists, please try to enter a different credit card”
Note: Since October 2007 pa ako user ng paypal & I currently use my paypal for online earning transaction even though wala pa ako noong EON card kaya nagtataka ako bakit hindi ma-verify yung EON card ko ng paypal eh fully acctivated na naman ang EON card ko at isa pa ginawa ko naman ang exact & correct proceedures para ma-verify ang paypal account ko?
on the fallowing day I try to call on there Toll Free Hotline at nakausap ko ang isa sa (Call Center Agent) CCA nila ok naman at verfied na fully acctivated ang EON card ko at pwede ko na gamitin kahit sa ATM Local transaction, pero sabi ng CCA nila eh wala daw sa kanila ang problema, baka nasa paypal daw, minsan daw my downtime ang paypal kaya daw hindi ko ma-verify yung paypal account ko sabi ng CCA, try ko lang daw day after day para ma-verify ko daw yung paypal account ko. haay… buhay nga naman sinasayang nila ang oras ko… I tried to contact them via Cyber account of Unionbank about sa problem ko pero 2 days na ang nakararaan still no response…
Thanks Joshua for this post. We have the same problem also cyberguy. I have called to their hotline 3 times, they told me verified naman daw..pumunta na ako sa unionbank ganun din di daw sa kanila ang probs. Ano ba talaga to?! What a hassle! Kung kailan mo pa kailangan ang pera:( Kung may downtime man ang paypal, so every hour ko na lang e try ulit?..hayz. hassle talaga.Ok naman yung mga details ko sa address and everything…We’ll di ko na lang iisipin.
badtrip talaga yung Unionbank. Kailangan bang my balance yung account?
i opened an atm account yesterday and got the unionbank e wallet visa card. is this the same as the eon card?
and is the card usable to make online payments in lieu of a credit card? some of the answers i’ve read here seem to indicate YES, but my second question is, when it asks you for the name on the card, what do you put? wala kasing name yung atm card ko (apparently optional na siya ngayon sa ATM accounts)
hope someone can answer! thanks
Hi Guy I’m back for further updates, as I posted my reply here as of now finally my EON card is Link to my paypal account, now I have to wait 5 to 6 days to get my EXPUSE or “paypal code” to lift the limits of my account, kaya guys try to link your EON account to your paypal account now, according to EON services I mailed them regarding to my last problem which is I posted here last May 16, they replied to me at ang sabi nila, lahat daw ng new EON accounts ay pansamantalang freeze at hindi muna magagamit sa pag-link ng account ng paypal para ma-verify ang paypal account, dahil sa nag-uupgrade ng new facilities ang VISA, pero maaring gamitin as for local services only. so I replied to them and ask, kung hanggang kelangan ang pag-uupgrade ng new Facility ng VISA, I wait for there answers day after day, still they didn’t reply. but now I tried to login to my EON account but sad to say they doing some maintenance on the EON login site, so thats the time I tried to link my EON account to my paypal account, so guys try to link your EON to your paypal now.
I just got it yesterday. Is it through the ATM or through the teller? Kung sa teller po ba same branch din kung san ko kinuha or at any branch pwede ako magdeposit? Thanks!
Another question if you please?
I am a member of some PTC (paid-to-click) sites. Some of them only accepts payment to Alertpay.com accounts. But I don’t think Alertpay is available in the Philippines. I looked for ways to transfer Alertpay to PayPal and I found move-funds.com that does this service but for a 7.9% fee out of the transaction (if I transfer $100 they’d get $7.9 so I’m left with $92.1.
I’m just asking if anybody is familiar with PTC using Alertpay and if they have any experiences regarding receiving money.
Thanks thanks! Nice blog Jozzua.
Actually, if that alert pops up, I found out, it’s because Visa is updating their system (or you don’t have funds on the account). It happened to me recently and annoyingly, it took two weeks before they were finished!
I got my expanded use code as soon as I verified my Eon card - except that I didn’t recognize it for what it was and let it sit for a couple of days.
Your EON account is considered a savings account, so when you have to withdraw / deposit you’ll need to mark ’savings’ on the slips, though I don’t recommend withdrawing over the counter - that costs you a fee wheras withdrawing from their ATM costs you nothing. Costs you nothing to deposit funds either.
In regards to the e-wallet, I think it’s best to ask since it might be possible to use Paypal with the e-wallet. You could try it out; otherwise, inquire at a branch.
I had the misfortune though of getting my application lost via system error and had to reapply. Took me longer than the five days! Gah!
As far as I know though, short of having an actual credit card (which not everyone can apply for!) all other banks’ debit cards don’t work with Paypal or can be used to purchase stuff off the internets. I found this out the hard way (Yep, BPI doesn’t work… nor does BDO) and only Unionbank’s debit card can be used to buy stuff online (I’m still waiting for BDO to catch up!!! Not happening anytime soon, unless the number of inquiries about Paypal there gets really intense!)
Hmmm. I thought getting the EOn card was easy. It turns out iba ibang time frame for different branches. The branch I went to said I had to wait three long weeks or more to get the card. What’s up with that? Hahay.
Does anyone have a “ACH Withdrawal Denied” email problem from paypal?
I now can’t transfer funds from paypal to my eon account, it says “Invalid Account Information” even if it is verified already and worked alright in the last 2 months I’ve been using it.
I tried it twice, each time it cost me P250.00. The money just went back to paypal.
I tried emailing unionbank through their cyber account, it took them 7 days to reply. They just ask what’s my account number. I’m expecting it’ll take another 7 days for them to reply my email again. Typical lousy pinoy customer service.
@Eu awwwww. that sucks talaga. Ano ba ginagamit mo para matransfer mo ang paypal funds mo papuntang eon account mo?
Through card ba (using the card number) or through bank account (using your account number)?
I had the conversion to my bank account.
It’s been 11 days now and unionbank still didnt reply my email. I guess they won’t anymore.
I called the branch where I got my card today, the guy just said that he can’t access paypal in their office. He directed me to the customer support email again. He did check my account, it was fine. And he’s right, I was able to withdraw money from it through atm machine yesterday. It’s just that account info is the problem. He told me to write paypal and ask for the specific invalid info. I wrote paypal, I’m not sure if paypal knows, though. I’ll just have to wait.
I went searching, I came across a blog that said, Unionbank’s Eon was just the only one that can verify accounts but after it is verfied, you are free to add any bank in the Philippines and use it to withdraw money from paypal. Is this true? I’m not testing it though, P250.00 is too much for experiment.
i have my EON and i already tried withdrawing my money from paypal.. okay po sya 2 to 3 days lng naman yung transfer..
to eu: “ACH Withdrawal Denied.” this is the same problem I had and it hurts twice coz i made another attempt to withdraw and lost P 500.00 in the process. I had successful withdrawals prior to this. I do not know the cause of this problem and I am now wary of withdrawing my PayPal funds again.
Unionbank customer service is crap! They don’t know what to do! I do not want another P250.00 experiment
They’re now asking for a transaction password…wherein I’ve been blocked because I don’t remember it being there. Now that I’ve asked to have it reset, it has been blocked again because the instructions on the email and what I see on the screen don’t match. It still won’t accept the default password given to me.
Also…the customer service is so hard to contact! I’ve been on hold for centuries already!
me din same prob wd bea.. pano ba ma recover yung password natin dun sa transaction? heeelllppp!
My EON Card is still denied by paypal for about 3 months, I already deposited to my eon card and reflected in their online banking. I already sent mail to Unionbank but they did not reply.
What’s the hotline number of unionbank to follow up my eon card?
Thanks.
I have been using my eon account with Unionbank for a few months now.
Things to do to make it work -
Withdraw to account - not card - it is much faster - around 5 days.
Deposit a couple of hundred pesos into the account when you first pick up your card - zero balance accounts cannot be withdrew into from PayPal.
If you forget your Transaction Password - don’t bother emailing Unionbank - even from within your account - only customer support hotline can help you, and they suck bigtime.
Can you tell me the customer support hotline of unionbank Philippines?
thanks
