After John’s post on card services supporting PayPal Philippines, I had to confirm with someone who actually had one of the cards identified. I chatted online with Noli Mirador, who had a UnionBank EON card. See a short transcript of our converstion (sorry, for non-Pinoys, it’s in Filipino):
Bok: na try mo na paypal
Bok: ?
Noli: yap
Bok: does it work?
Bok: naka withdraw ka na?
Bok: pwede na send receive e
Noli: sa eon not yet.. pero dumadating lahat ng nagbabayad sa paypal ko..
Bok: ahh
Noli: were you from?
Bok: pwede raw withdraw form EON
Bok: from EON
Noli: yap..
Noli: pagka withdraw mo to card sa paypal, after 5-7 days daw ang clearing..
Bok: wow
Noli: un kung verified na eon mo..
Noli: heheh
…
Bok: thanks sa heads up
Bok: on the EON thing
Noli: np
Bok: so nasubukan mo na nga yung EON? kaso 7 days to clear?
Noli: yap..
Bok: magkano nga pala charge
Bok: extra charges?
Bok: sa pag transfer from PayPal to UnionBank?
Noli: i think sa paypal per transaction/withdrawal is $10
Bok: ok thanks
So it seems to work like this: You transfer your money from PayPal to your UnionBank Account. It takes around 5-7 days to clear. When it does, you can then withdraw the cash. Hmm. 5-7 days is a long clearing time (but still personally okey by me). There is a transfer fee of around US$10.
What’s great about UnionBank EON is that you can actually apply for it online and just pick up the card. It takes only P350 to open it up.
I suspect a lot of people will get this card. I’m applying for one right now.
UPDATE: From my friend, Angelo (about getting UNIONBANK cards online):
Angelo: They will call you when your card is ready for pickup tapos bayad ka lang pagkuha mo.
So, when your UnionBank card is ready, they will call you. You pay for it when you get it.

Hi. :)
I think it’s because the money you withdrew was A LOT, Gio. :) I mean, around Php 45,000 is not small change. Unionbank may have had fears on it being munnylaundering munny. :p
As for me, because I had heard how some of you guys hadn’t received your munny for weeks, kinulit ko ng kinulit yung Unionbank, with a dramatic final email na baka di ko na nga gamitin kung hindi maibigay sa akin yung pera. I told them that despite the scary stories I’ve seen around, I had signed up for EON “on faith,” and even recommended it to my parentz. I think that got them. Ahehe. :p
So yun,”miraculously,” I got my munny (super much less than Gio’s revenue, I assure you) within hours of the email. :p
And then the munny I got was Php 200 less than what I was supposed to get.
I hate how these banks are sometimes so unscrupulous. :(
If I find a better facility than EON, I’m switching to it!
Hmph!!!

UNION BANK WALANG KWENTA….
Bulok ang service ng bangkong eto…
I had sent money from paypal to Unionbank last Oct 3 but until now i didn’t received anything. I am earning my monthly income on the net and im reserving that one for our bills here in our house since im the only one earning.
But because of this CORRUPT and DISGRACEFUL Garcia owned bank, our electricity and water were cut off, and were two months delayed with our apartments rent..
To my kababayans DO NOT ever put your money on this WORTHLESS And GREEDY Bank..
