Windows Sidebar Or Google Sidebar

There are some cool new desktop gadgets you can put on your desktop these days. I’m currently toying around with Google Sidebar and Windows Sidebar. Google Sidebar comes with the Google Desktop software application while the Windows sidebar currently works only with Vista.

Various littles software applications could be added on the sidebar. The first thing I looked for was an RSS reader that automatically updates feeds. Both had ‘em. I just wanted to be updated with the latest news updates online. This way, I know what’s happening in real time. I fetched Inquirer.net’s news feeds for this.

I then added a system monitor. This way I could find out the current memory and CPU usage. Then, I looked for some other cool gadgets to add. Here’s how my Windows sidebar looked like:

Google sidebar was not too different:

The Windows version had one nice gadget that I didn’t find in Google sidebar – it was an app that automatically changed the desktop background. I love to change my wallpapers. I wanted it done automatically. Since MS had it, I preferred to use Window’s sidebar.

The gadgets that are available can make the difference in which to choose here. Check ‘em out and choose your sidebar.

Wow that is the most incomprehensive comparison ever. You chose one over the other just because of one little gadget. You know that there are plenty of standalone apps that do that too right?
