Making Money Out of Ratatouille

There used to be a toy store at the 3rd floor of Eastwood mall (in Libis, Quezon City, Philippines) that is now closed. I wonder why it closed down. It was strategically positioned to get a lot of foot traffic. The movie cinemas were at the forth floor and the shop was facing the escalators. Everyone who wanted to see a movie would see the shop along the way.

When I watched the “Happy Feet” movie (you know, the one with the penguins), I thought… “This store could’ve made money if they sold penguins when Happy Feet was shown.” Why did I think that? Well I, myself, would’ve bought one had there been a store there selling stuffed penguin toys. I eventually did buy one - but from another mall quite far from Eastwood.

Point is - these shops aren’t taking advantage of what’s being shown on the movies. If they did, I bet they would’ve earned some decent income.

Last Saturday I saw the movie Ratatouille - which was about a rat who knew how to cook. Ratatouille is also the name of a French dish made with ’summer’ vegetables. It was considered a farmer’s meal. The meal itself was featured in the movie.

Now what if some restaurant out there took advantage of the movie Ratatouille and offered a taste of ratatouille to people? After watching the movie, I was rather curious what ratatouille (the meal) was and wanted to find out where I could actually taste it. Movies tend to have that effect on me. I’m sure it has the same effect on other people.

That’s a simple way of making money from movies. Now, does anybody out there know where I can taste Ratatouille in Metro Manila, Philippines?

  1. Many years ago, I tried it in Trattoria Gourmet, back when it was still in Robinsons Galleria. There’s a branch in Shangri-La Plaza.

Maybe they still have ratatouille there?

  2. is the ratatouille food made of rats? Buwaaaaaa!

  3. They should take the cue from ABS CBN and Bacolod Chicken Inasal. I’m curious about Ysabella’s chicken with all their advertising. Your post has also made me curious about the dish ratatouille. I didn’t think it was available here. Maybe Trattoria is worth a visit.

  4. Yeah I might just visit Trattoria just to taste it. It’s a vegetable dish.

Em, yeah I find that Ysabella’s chicken concept rather intriguing.

  5. Hay, speaking of ratatouille, marami kaming ganun sa bahay! Naglalabasan ang mga loko kapag umuulan. Hehe!

You’ve got a very nice point. If I remember right, every time we pass by that toy store, we see Star Wars figurines and si Smeagol ata from Lord Of the Rings!

Hey, the couple Sherwin and Astrid got interviewed by Korina Sanchez at Rated K daw ah! Kaso di ko napanuod.

  6. hey jozzua,
which domain parking service pays the highest?

  7. Hotel Intercon served ratatouille during the 2nd day of semcon if you’d remember. Since I love vegetables, it was indeed sumptuous.

  8. What? Really? I wasn’t there. Wahh :((
