Experiencing Seasonal Online Income?

I had a podcast session with the band of bloggers at Yehey. Basically we talked about the latest updates on Yehey's online payment system called Kaban. I've blogged about it before. They've now officially launched their service. It's still a one time P50,000 set up fee plus charges per transaction. Unlike before, Jonas of Yehey was actually able to show me a LIVE demo. So FYI guys, it's already up and running. Goodluck to Yehey and Kaban!

After the discussion, I had a chat with Markku, Noemi and Abe about the latest Adsense income trends. We all noticed a drop in Adsense number this April and May. Just to remind you, these three (not me) are A-list bloggers who get solid Adsense income. For them to say that Adsense income went down means they really felt it.

Abe says he noticed a drop of around 20-30%. Markku says it happens to him whenever summer comes. It seems that his websites' target audience are usually students. When summer comes, there are no classes, and not many students surf the Internet. Both Markku and Noemi tell me, however, that the new Text Link Ads make up for it. The payout for TLA seems to have gotten better.

It is interesting that we all experienced this. Although there is no hard data to back it up, it would seem that STUDENTS are the prime movers of local blogging income. If there are no classes, income goes down. I'd love to find out the statistics of student internet users in the Philippines to address their needs more. What this all means for a tech-savvy entrepreneur... BLOG FOR STUDENTS and Earn More!.

  1. I’m experiencing a steady increase in income every month proportionate to steady increase in monthly traffic, and some upsurge during months with special occasions like Valentine’s day and Christmas (this is basically due to people searching for text messages during those days).

  2. Hi! Why not also blog for non-students, to help reduce the effects of seasonality? :-)

Just wondering… if students don’t end up buying the products of online advertisers, won’t Adsense publishers experience smart pricing?

  3. in my blog what drops is the traffic but the adsense income has no change at all.

  4. For the last 3 day I am having a very good income in adsense infact only for the 3 days I got an equivalent of my earnings last march for all of my blog..
Good that I have optimized my blog in keywaord such as “Philippine Eleksyon” and “Halalan-2007″ I even bit Channel 2 and 7..

  5. I thought I am the only one experiencing a sudden drop of adsense income this summer. Mine is at least 30% less last April, but it’s picking up again starting this May. I guess students are really the major factors in driving traffic. Sana pasukan na ulit! hehe…

  6. It’s still a one time P50,000 set up fee plus charges per transaction.

hey Jozzua, di kaya P50.00 lang ito?? sobra naman ata laki if P50K, hehehe…

  7. Hey guys, well it is still quite interesting to note that there does seem to be a trend.. but not everyone is affected. It still seems to depend on the domain.

ChrisH, no joke man. 50k. They target SME’s for the service. NO question, it’s not competitively priced. But it’s currently one of the more solid options for payments gateways in the Philippines.

  8. This is an eye opener to me and have mystified me for months. Yes this April and May plus the last week of March my traffic went spiralling down like an airplane. And when I looked at Yahoo and Google traffic trend in Alexa I also noticed a sudden drop in traffic on those months. Really students makes the majority of those traffic. Sana nga pasukan na.

  9. Actually my site is affected it increased in revenue by 20-30% :) because some of my Blog topic is about resorts. But now its going down summer is almost over.

  10. so funny, after that talk we had, my adsense went back to its normal level. But the first 15 days of May, my income dropped 30% to 40%. It’s weird. What I have been doing is just keep updating fresh content. BTW, my adsense income is not based from Philippines readers (except for my personal blog which I don’t really monetize) I think it’s that advertisers lowered their bid. It’s picking up now .

  11. Ms. Noemi, yes it is funny. I actually experienced the same thing! My numbers suddenly back to pre March figures. Really weird.

  12. According to Eugene, Kaban has a monthly fee package. Did they mention this while we were there? :-o If not, I wonder why?

  13. They didn’t mention it Rico. However, I do recall in one of our discussions with them before that they could spread out the P50K payment into several months. Maybe Eugene was referring to this?

  14. Baka yon nga. :) I’d honestly go for that, just to keep my business costs down.

  15. Hi Jozzua, Rico, allow me to confirm that. Kaban does have a monthly fee package where a merchant pays 50% downpayment and the remaining 50% can be paid in monthly terms for a maximum of 5 months.:)

  16. Thanks for the confirmation Jonas! Good luck with Kaban!

  17. Thank you very much too. :)

  18. Traffic and impressions have been going steady in the case of http://www.pinoymoneytalk.com for the past three months now, and Adsense earnings have continued to rise. But I think it does depend on a number of factors, including your target niche and the number of blog articles you make.
