Social Network Marketing Works
Someone I personally know markets her products through multiply.com. I laughed at the idea at first but when she started getting orders through her website, I realized I was wrong! Marketing through social networking sites, at least on multiply, apparently work!
How does that work? Multiply, like Friendster, is a social networking website. It has some features like blogging and a photo gallery. When visitors drop by your website in Multiply, they can invite you. Once you join their network, you get to see all their contacts. When you update your website, everybody in the contact list is also notified.
Now, if you were selling items and updating the images on your website, everybody in your entire network is informed about it. The curious are enticed to drop by and see what products you have in your site. That’s free marketing for you!
You can also see visitors that dropped by your website (similar to the mybloglog plugin). You can click on an avatar, see their website, their contacts and photos. When you invite them, their contacts and automatically add to your network. This makes YOUR network MUCH larger. MORE potential customers!
So, this is an rather efficient way to get SEEN. It’s a great way to SELL.
Tried selling on Friendster yet?

People use Multiply for online stores, not because of the social networking, but because Multiply allows unlimited photo uploads.
Dami nagbebenta sa multiply, astig yung utilization of the technology to reach their potential market. In a way, there is a social aspect to it since the target market of the entrepreneurs I saw were mostly the yuppie crowd.
Migs, I don’t think it’s just the image space. Markku has a point – the social aspects of the system seem to really work for the entrepreneurs.
what i noticed about Multiply though is that they provide all the Google Adsense…Dooes this mean that as a Multiply user with photos and blog at Multiply have no way of putting your own adsense if you by using Multiply?
I think Migs and Markku are both right, the unlimited photo uploads are really enticing and plus, they don’t have a date/time limit to keep your photos(products) posted. You’re not forced to re-post your unsold products unlike in other e-commerce sites like ebay. It’s true that the target market there is mostly students and yuppies, but also other sellers as well.. which can be a potential partner or a competitor.
