Your Grandma used to just listen and watch radio/tv ads. You, however, are bombarded with more tech savvy, scientific advertising methods. Didn’t you notice?
Ad campaigns now (like Adwords) can be measured real-time. Conversions are the name of the game. If you have Google Adwords, for example, you can create a big list of keywords that are related to a product you might want to sell. Analytics tracking can scientifically show you which Ad copies are selling. You REALLY KNOW which ad campaigns are earning you money.
In a way, social surfer habits are now being monitored. Ads are optimized based on what surfers actually look for and “click on” to in the Internet.
You couldn’t do something so fast and automatic with television or radio Ads. Results would come after a week, a month, or after a customer survey program.

…there’s still a huge amount of room for growth in internet advertising. Paul Kedrosky’s been studying the latest reports from the Internet Advertising Bureau, which show internet advertising at $16.8 billion for 2006. If I recall, tv advertising is at about $80 billion, so there’s considerable room for growth as the internet continues to draw attention away from print, tv, radio, and other old media.
Through, Kedrosky, I also saw the press release from the Internet Advertising Bureau:
NEW YORK, NY (March 7, 2007) ? The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) today announced that Internet advertising revenues for 2006 are estimated at $16.8 billion, a 34 percent increase over the previous revenue record of $12.5 billion in 2005. The 2006 Q4 revenues totaled just under $4.8 billion, making it the highest quarter reported. Fourth-quarter revenues for 2006 represent a 32 percent increase over the same period in 2005, and a 15 percent increase over Q3 of 2006, estimated at slightly under $4.2 billion.
You see what’s happening? Companies are realizing that real money can be made through Internet Marketing.
So if you’re an internet advertiser, business is good. Signs indicate that it’s going to be better. College graduates should start studying Internet Marketing. There is a real career here.
