How To Secure Your Wordpress Blog

A fellow blogger’s wordpress site was recently hacked. Please take note of how to secure your wordpress blogs. It involves a bit of technical know-how, so some of you might need to ask help from an IT expert. I have a strong suspicion that Tess’ website was hit by the latest security vulnerability.

Additional suggestions:

  • You may not actually want to always upgrade your blog until you are sure that the latest upgrade is bug-free. Abe actually learned that himself. My blog is a lower version of Wordpress and I have not yet updated. I don’t want to face the hassles of suddenly discovering some bugs on my upgrade. I’ll upgrade when I have lots of free time on my hand.
  • Be careful when blogging on free wifi zones. Did you know that data packets spread around the network are all in text format? Someone with a highly reliable packet-sniffer can actually find out your user names and passwords! Unless you use an SSL certificate, high tech people on free networks can see your personal details. I suddenly realized Jayvee’s flash mob blogging should be done in a secure network.

Well, I guess when someone really wants to hack your blog, they will find a way. Maybe being paranoid will help.
