Does Blog Writing Really Relieve Stress?

I’ve been told by Aileen that I should write more often. She noticed I don’t really write daily and is probably the reason why I don’t get as much traffic as say - Abe (who writes even 2-3 times daily). I thought about what she said and felt that there was actually a hint of truth in it.

This blog started over a year ago (Jan 2006) and I initially just started blogging to help people. I was a teacher before and that ‘teaching bug’ stayed with me. I also wanted figure out whether blogging can be an alternative revenue source. After all, I’ve read about Mr. Problogger himself, Darren Rowse and found out that there is real money to be earned here. I heard rumors that Ms. Sassy Lawyer is one of top Philippine blog earners - earning as much as…? I really can’t say. I just heard it was quite big.

Lately, however, I seem to write more to relieve work stress. Yeah, I’m really stressed out at work. I’ve got some goals that I need to achieve. I have been quite motivated to be wealthy for quite a while but motivation is not enough. Implementation and daily testing is also important. Just thinking about all the things that need to be done is mentally stressful.

Writing about these things seem to relieve the stress. I guess there IS some wisdom to imparting a bit of personal knowledge on paper (or in this case, in a web page). It this why writers (of centuries past) wrote journals? Is it more than just to share oneself? Is it also to release emotions and thoughts to the world?

All I know is that this works for me. If you are stressed, try writing. Maybe it will also work for you.

Ohh i think it does. for four years I blog without the idea of monetizing my sites. It was, for me, at that time, just a space to vent. (Maybe that’s why I feel so stressed lately, I just can’t find time to blog!).

P.S. I missed arming myself with business cards nung Ituloy Angsulong Night. Haha, my bad. I’ll make sure i have some next time.

@Riz: Yeah, you and me agree. Prepare your business cards! At the party I didn’t have time to spread out my cards. Being emcee was time-consuming!

I dunno… writing too much and too often can bring down the number of RSS subscribers.

I wonder which will bring in more traffic as far as 7 posts a week are concerned:

    1. Writing daily in one blog, or

    2. Writing one post a week in seven blogs/online communities? :-)

  4. jozzua Says:

WEll, Abe (Yugatech) has a lot of RSS subscribers while still blog posting almost everyday. Some people probably like RSS, others don’t.
