$7000 a month for Domaining…Online Real Estate

Domaining is a term used for an online business where domain name buyers get many different high-traffic URLs and have them parked (for passive income) or sold. It’s like online real estate.

In this case, the online real estate is the domain name or URL. This is basically what you type unto a web browser. For instance, the domain name of my website is jozzua.com. This is my personal online real-estate. If there were no domain names, we’d be putting in IP numbers on address bars of browsers.

What people do with online real estate is similar to what businesses do offline. If you have a free space smack at the center of a big city, you could either develop and sell it, or you could rent it out. Here in Makati (Philippines), for example, having an empty lot could bring you big business. Make that empty lot a parking space for cars. Parking rates here go for 30-50 Pesos in Makati, depending on where the lot is. Just get 100 cars to park in your lot and you’d be getting 3000-5000 pesos daily.

The same concept is applied online. Domainers buy what they think are high traffic domains. Misspellings are an example. A domainer can get wwwmyspace.com and get traffic from people who mistyped www.myspace.com. The URL could just be a website parked with a company that offers advertising. Perhaps it could be a one page website that is full of Google Adsense. The domainers make money out of Ads on their site.

If I domain name has a tremendous amount of traffic coming in, a domainer can sell the name itself at a premium. This is like buying and flipping houses. Look for cheap property, develop it a bit, and sell at a premium. This could also be done online. Buy a domain name, develop it a bit, and then sell at a premium.

How profitable it it? Just go to the SEO Philippines Forum and see how much one Domainer is getting.
