The Eragon Movie was Disappointing
I knew it was bad when I heard the movie made a young boy cry. I still had to see it for the special effects. I also wanted to find out how different it was from the original book.
They really crammed in the book into that movie. Hollywood did the same for Harry Potter. The Harry Potter movies are definitely much better than Eragon. Some movie scenes here didn’t make sense anymore. My close friend (who hasn’t read the book) saw the movie with me and was confused by the film. How could Eragon become a champion of the Varden with only one sword fight training scene? How could a dragon become mature in one flash? Who the hell was Murtagh and was he related to the story?
The movie is sorely lacking in Character development. Jeremy Irons (Brom) was the only noteworthy character there. He was heroic - as he was in the book. His voice was commanding and he knew how to be both a mentor and a friend. Ed Speleers (Eragon) was terrible. That’s not entirely how I imagined how Eragon would be. This movie Eragon was entirely too cocky. The book Eragon wasn’t like that. He was unsure–confused but was driven to action by what he needed to do. He even wasn’t sure whether he wanted to join Galbatorix or the Varden.
Whoever made the revisions to the story line made the movie quite crappy. This has no respect for fantasy book lovers. We take the time to read a nice book and see how the characters evolve. We emphasize with them. Share the emotions they go through their adventures. There were no real and engaging emotions on the Movie. You couldn’t feel the hardships that Eragon endured, nor the love he had for Arya and his Dragon. It was obviously a high tech film made for profit — without hint of art in it.
I wish Peter Jackson (of the Lord of The Rings Movies) made this one instead.

Alfredo, I agree.
Didn’t like the movie that much either. While watching Eragon, I kept seeing references to Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, and this movie was in no way in the league of those two.
Yup, I think they did compress everything in the book to fit into the movie. And I also think the idea of not having much character development in the movie is because they want us to watch the sequel.
No idea though if the Inheritance Trilogy movie will push though (’Eragon’ is the first in this book trilogy) but you can just read the 2nd and 3rd book sequels to find out what major role Murtagh will play.
Like the telenovelas we Pinoys love to watch, Murtagh is …

Hey, is there a book three already? Last I checked it was only up to book two. That’s why I didn’t read ELDEST yet. Baka mabitin lang ako ulit.
And the Movie really ruined it for me.
Nope, Book 3 is not yet out, I think it’s going to be out this year or next year. Not really looking forward to it though, Eragon for me was enough.
ey Jozzua!
Nice meeting you at the blog parteeh! Til next time
I completely agree…the movie was to short to fit the wonderful despcriptions and the well plotted characters the paolini so wonderfully described
and yes if hollywood wants to do justice to the movies made about wonderful books…atleast include the author to give an imput
i wrote Christopher paolini and he wrote back saying he had absolutely no say in the production of the eragon movie.
the eragon movie sucked…simple as that!
they crammed the entire story into a movie that wasn’t even that long!
Chris Paolini what the hell where you thinking!
it’s true the one wrote the script was aweful and the whole movie was a mess…i really love the book but the outcome of the movie was disappointing…hope the next time they film the Eldest the same way as LORDS of the RING so everyone can say AWESOME…
