This morning we didn’t have Internet access so we dialed up 171, PLDT’s customer support number. An answering machine promptly answered the call and directed us to certain numbers depending on the nature of the inquiry. Since we had trouble with our web line, we dialed the numbers for PLDT DSL support (171-5-2-2). We were greeted by an interesting message:
We regret that your Internet line may experience Intermittent degradation. The Earthquake in Taiwan caused a major break in international cable connections..
They give people a heads up NOT TO EXPECT quality service because of the quake.
We spoke to a call center representative who entertained our questions. We asked why we couldn’t connect. It seemed to us that the PPoE connection was not accepting our previous username/password combination. The agent told us that it WAS working.
“Could you try connecting again?” He asked.
So, we disconnected and reconnected. Viola, the connection was back up!
Our Sysad found it strange. He suspects that we were accidentally blocked and that PLDT had to reset the account. He thinks that they would not readily tell us that but it does happen.
Well, Internet is back up so no more hassles. We didn’t have to curse them.
