Happy New Year! This is my new laptop, a Neo Endura 505GL:
jozzua_laptop.jpg

This nice little system has:

  • 512 MB Ram
  • 40GB Hard Disk Drive
  • 14″ WXGA TFT Display
  • Intel? Graphics Media Accelerator 900
  • 24x DVD+CDRW Combo Drive
  • Integrated Web Camera
  • 10/100/1000 Mbps LAN
  • 3x USB 2.0, Firewire, S-Video out, 4-in-1 Card Reader
  • 6-cell Lithium Ion Battery
  • 2.2kg
  • Carry Case, Drivers
  • 2 year warranty

  • Yes you read that right. For only 31000 Pesos (US$620), you could get a nice laptop with built-in web cam and 4-1 card reader at only 2.2 kg. I bought this at PC Click, over at Gilmore, Quezon City. Gilmore is known as a hub for affordable computer systems. You could travel there easily by hopping on the MRT train going from Santolan to Recto. Just get off at Gilmore station.

Last year I had another laptop which I gave to my girlfriend. Since then I worked on a desktop.

Luckily, the office thought I deserved a laptop. It would be helpful for marketing purposes. Viola! New Year, new gadget.

Update. Here’s a video of the laptop:

    congrats on your new laptop!

and happy new year na din - belated. hehehe

Hi! My name is Paul. I also bought the same laptop at 256MB of memory with 1 year warranty. You say that yours is 512MB memory with 2 year warranty at the same price. I would like to sell mine. Do you have some friends who would like to have the same laptop as yours less Php 500 complete set still under warranty. Thank you.

Hiya Paul. Will forward your post to my friends. I got this deal by haggling with it.

    Hi,

I am actually planning to buy the same model. But I like the specs of urs. 512MB, 2 yr. warranty, where did u buy it? was also planning to haggle freebies at PC corner, but im not sure if they will give me these. Plus the OS is not included. Help please.. I want less headache.. :)

hello! im planning to buy the endura 531Nl at Emcor but a guy from concept computer told me, its already obsolete. Empriva is the new one now. Is this true? Since the one im eyeing does not contain a free dos, how did u get yours? Is it ok if i let them install a pirated windows xp?Is the webcam clear enough? How will u compare it with the Aceraspire 5572wxmi? thanks!

Hi Danielle, yeah NEO seems to have updates its line of computers and Empriva is one of the models they offer. Well, if you can get an original windows OS, might as well go for it as you will get an annoying GET A GENUINE WINDOWS reminder if you don’t. The webcam is CLEAR. I even use it for my video blogging! I’m not aware of the Acer Aspire model you are referring to.

Here’s what I can tell you, I’m pretty happy with my laptop but there are 2 things I don’t like about it:

    - The hand rest tends to warm up too much. I can feel it when I leave the laptop on for a long number of hours.

    - The laptop scratches easily and gets ugly after a month of using it. If you are keen on keeping a nice look on your laptop, you may opt to get some laptops with the ceramic like casing.

By danielle on May 25th, 2007 at 2:33 pm

thanks! how often do u think the prices change? im really confused. The Acer model looks good too. Is windows vista not recommended? thanks again.

Hello, Im Marck. Im planning to buy this kind of laptop for I found my needed features here. But I may just ask, what is the processor of Endura. Can you send me the full specifications of this laptop… Neo Q Note Endura 505GL? Kindly send it through my email…. thanks.

Hi! I own the same laptop. its really great. good value for its price. its packed actually. i was planning to use it as a test unit for testing softwares since i use an HP as my main laptop. turns out some of its hardware even surpasses those of my HP. its sound system can be configured to deliver 7.1 channel surround sound. now my HP doesn’t have that. matter of fact, even more expensive laptops don’t have those. the webcam is pretty clear, comes close to the 1.3 megapixel that my HP has & it has built in wifi.it sure comes in handy when you want to surf the net if youre in a hotspot. I highly recommend this unit for those looking for a Laptop that delivers more for their money.

Don’t buy NEO laptops at any price coz u will not be satisfied. I have the cheapest NEO laptop around. At first it was running very slowly and now new issues emerge. The laptop’s fan is noisy and running all the time. I’m embarrassed to bring it to the college library because of the noise it generates

depende rin yan sa nagamit, well if after 8 months bumigay yung neo laptop mo, eh meron naman warranty yan diba? eh di papalitan mo.
and if you want a good laptop, go for branded ones like ibm or dell.

i have a neo laptop too but its bluetooth device is not working. forgot to ask the supplier to make it function. do u know how i could make ds built-in bluettoh device work. tnx pre

I bought a Neo laptop around 10 months ago. It’s been in and out of the shop +/- 2 months out of the 10. FOR THE SAME PROBLEM!! It just keeps coming back.

I asked if it could be replaced. I even offered to upgrade. They said they do not replace laptops.

Even worse is that it gets new scratches and dents everytime it comes back from the shop.

I regret buying it. I’m stuck with it.

swertihan lang yan, it doesn’t matter what brand you get, if you got a lemon, ganun talaga. i have an i-mac g5, ever since i bought it, it’s been in and out of the service center too, good thing i have apple care, kaya yung palit ng parts libre. neo is a good brand para sa kin, coz’ a lot of my friends use it on on-site video editing at hindi pa naman sila napapahiya. pero yun lang gasgasin siya, pero it’s okay. basta hindi nagbebreak down. if you want upper level na high end, go for hp or dell. (ibm or lenovo, wag yun, sooooooooo ugggly!)

Hello, I bought my neo laptop a year and a half ago.. Literally that laptop doesn’t sleep. it is for downloading and dvd encoding purposes. awake 24hours a day 6 days a week. and not even once, it has been sent to the tech support.
A laptop doesn’t need a name… I have my toshiba, blue, msi, and a compaq, but not even once these laptops of mine was sent to a technical support team. The specifications are what’s important… I once thought that i need to buy the most expensive one to have quality, but unfortunately i got them both in the expensive and the cheap ones.. Laptops are all the same, as long as you know how to use it… the only problem that i got with these laptops are the battery… other than that none… thanks

to joel, for the bluetooth device to activate you have to enable in on your keyboard. click Fn together with the bluetooth sign on the keyboard it is on written together with the functions keys

hey is your laptop still on the market? m canvassing one for my boyfriend. email me if you can. thanks!

A friend of mine told me NEO Empriva laptops are mainit? how true?

    TIA.

    Hi!

I stumbled on this page, because I was looking for reviews regarding NEO. I have been planning to buy a BLUE laptop, since I have personally tried and tested BLUE’s performance in my events in the gaming industry. But, after my father’s convincing, I agreed to purchase a NEO laptop, until I experienced what I call their ‘finest’ customer service.

Let me jot down what I’ve experienced:
    1. I gave the NEO sales rep my business card at Megamall and he promised to update me regarding the availability of the laptop that I’m looking for - NEO 601 RVP. Instead of him doing the follow ups, I’m the one calling him every now and then to get feedback.
    2. This NEO sales rep sends me text quotes on the cellphone, instead of updates about my laptop. Very professional, indeed.
    3. This NEO sales rep tells me that he will update me the following day, but I waited for a week - and again, I had to call him up to get an update regarding the availability of the unit, to which he replied, “A-hehehe… Sorry po ma’m. Hindi pa talaga e. Wala pa kasi boss namin.” Look, if you say that you’re going to update the following day, then you damn well should. If you can’t do it yourself, then turn it over to someone who can. DO NOT IGNORE YOUR CUSTOMERS.
    4. When I got fed up with this sales rep’s customer service (he even got my Yahoo ID, so that he could easily give me an update - which I found useless, because he doesn’t anyway), I called up NEO’s custcare support, only to get this, “Ay, tawag nalang kayo mamaya. Kumakain pa sila.”

So there you have it. NEO reps, if you are reading this, why should I even bother purchasing your laptop with this kind of service? As YOUR customer, I find it insulting that I should have to run after your reps, who PROMISE to update, for a simple information.

SO from a scale of 1-10 with 10 as the highest how would you rate Neo laptop? I am planning to buy one but Im having second thoughts. Can somebody either talk me in or out of buying one? Thanks!

    hi all,

im planning to buy a neo empriva 540svb, can someone pls give me a piece of advice if i’ll buy this kind of laptop thanks

since you’re looking for a NEO laptop at the price range of p30k, may i suggest a better model!

    NEO EMPRIVA 540NVPX
core duo 1.86ghz, 1gb ram, 80gb hardrive, dvd writer, 14″ wxga, wifi ready, webcam, genuine windows vista premium. at only p32.5k! cheap huh?

    here’s another one:

    NEO EMPRIVA 661NXi
core duo 1.86ghz, 1gb ram, 80gb hardrive, dvd writer, 12″ wxga, wifi ready, bluetooth, genuine windows xp mce. at only p34k!

    where to buy you say?
go to NEO SHOWROOM. that’s at sm megamall. 4th level cyberzone. just ask the sales rep where to get these bargain units!

i have the same problem with my bluetooth device. I really cannot activate it no matter how hard i press Fn and the key that goes with it. Can anyone help?

You need to install the driver for your bluetooth (included on the CD) before you can use it. Check if it is properly configured.

also, you need to check that XP SP2 is installed for installing other devices. otherwise, your Laptop will restart/or get a blue screen/error message. it’s not the Neo products defect. IT IS ACTUALLY HOW YOU PROPERLY CONFIGURE and USE your notebooks. The same goes to whatever brand you use. :)

I have a Neo Laptop model M360S Q-Note, it only has a XP starter edition, after which i changed my OS to a licensed XP Pro .. .Now, lagi na sya ng-hahang …well my friend told me to upgrade to 512mb bka lo-memory na…

hi! im planning to buy the neo empriva 572SVBx because i want a small laptop. Is this a good buy? Can someone help me please cause I can decide. Or can anyone suggest other brands with the same features my budget is up to 40k only…

    hi gud day..
i suggest that you to go to sm megamall co’z there’s some units ther e wich is on sale.. here’s the specs:
    intel core duo
    1gb ddr2ram
    80 gb hdd
    for only 35,998
sorry co’z i forgot the model name..

hi there…am into video editing and planning to try a neo laptop with firewire. suggestions please. salamat.

hey allan, you might want to post questions at the Philippine Laptops website.

hi ji and joy. maybe you would like to purchase my neo 572svb. i just bought it last august this year. im selling it cause my wife got a laptop from her company. you can reach me at 0920-9590509

Hi! I got a new NEO Empriva Laptop October 07, just a few months ago. It had the free version of Windows 2007 Office and I was told that I would have to have a full version installed and I did. That was around the 2nd week of October. By late November I was having problems with my NEO. It would shut down every now and I again. It was tolerable because it would start back up again, so I did not mind it much. Then one day, it shut down and would not open the windows program, so I took it for repair at a Neo service center. I got it back within 24 hours, they told me that they had to reformat it and I thought it was fine already. 2 weeks later, a new error message appeared and again my NEO would not start up. I sent it back to the service center, they checked it and I got it back after 24 hours. It worked fine for 8 hours or so. Then when I had to turn it on again, it wouldn’t and showed the same error message. I brought be it back to the service center. They had it overnight, gave it back to me and told me to observe it. This time it would turn on for just a bit. December 17, 2007 I took it back to the service center and was told that the memory may be the problem. They asked me to leave it there and that they would contact me as soon as they have news on what would be done with my NEO. It’s only been less that 48 hours but I am really worried. Its a new laptop, barely any scratches on it.:( I’m really hoping I could get it back soon, before the holidays hopefully. If it turns out that the problem was really a factory defect, then I know that I would be getting another NEO in the future, I’d would rather spring for the Mac. :( I’m hoping everything turns out OK. I’m a writer and that laptop has unofficially become my life! LOL. I’m wishing you guys all the best with your NEOs.

i just bought a neo laptop for P31K, with intel core duo 1.73ghz, 2gig memory. I’m a starting freelance photographer and i hope my laptop will be ok.

support site is unavailable. drivers hard to find. can neo philippines do something about it before selling all their stuff?

nice laptop you’ve got there. I also have a laptop. Does anyone know how to activate my built-in camera? thanks!

By vanillarama on January 4th, 2008 at 10:05 pm

i’m planning on buying a neo laptop for my birthday this month…but after reading your posts…wag nalang.

i have a low end neo laptop. i bought it last september 2007. celeron m 1.7GHz, 256 mb, 40G hdisk. it’s working just fine. i do a lot of downloading with it, video and photo editing included. as mentioned by others here… it’s in the proper configuration on the system. majority of laptops have similar specs. those who have recurring problems have you considered that a virus may be the cause? i run my laptop with AVAST Home Edition antivirus, COMODO Anti-spyware and COMODO Firewall. and my neo celeron m laptop can handle it. any laptop is just like any computer system, it needs proper configuration of hardware, software applications and OS. mga ‘tol di yan plug n play! whether you buy the top of the line brands or the less known brands it will only function as good as the way you configure the system. also, avoid pirated and cracked softwares they always have viruses.

i bought my neo laptop 540svb august 2007. i really like its performing. im selling it cause my wife got a new dell laptop from her company. thats why im selling this. im selling it for 28,000. you can email me at aris.nunez [at] pilardevelopment.com

hey guys. Nakuha ko na balik laptop ko and am typing this message on it now. So far, its been over a week and wala pa naman problema. Yun… Memory talag and deffective. Both 512MB memory cards ay sira. The technician from the service center gave me a choice: one, send my laptop to Neo for repair and wait another 2 - 3 months. Two, I buy my own memory, he’ll put it in for me and my laptop will be usable then and there. Surprise Surprise, I went for option 2. I shelled out nearly 2K for a 1GB memory card and now my laptop is fine. Sana di na masira ulit.. heheh.. Battery nalang problema ngayun.. 1 hour and 30 mins max lang.. hehe… enjoy ur laptop u guys…

Frankly, the NEO is notorious for its defects. To the lucky customers who did not get lemon laptops, congrats. My best friend got one for herself, and it had been in and out of the service center for two months straight since she bought it. Today, okay na, pero before, I feel for her. At Php 29k, meron akong Asus na may webcam and bluetooth na, 1GB RAM tapos around 1.8 GHz na core 2 duo processor. If you are interested in that plus other Asus laptops, just email me or head for my site. Sigh. I pity the people who think that going brandless/affordable would have to mean such pitiful quality AND service. A laptop seller who has a physical outlet once told me that NEO was on its way out.

Unless the up the ante and give better quality machines and better service, I couldn’t agree more.

I also have branded laptops at prices you won’t believe pala. :)

i had a compaq laptop.. binili un ng dad ko nung 1st(or second) year highschool pa ako.. xp n un..nagpaalam n siya sakin nung 2nd year college na ako..la lang.. share ko lang.. mas okay pa din kung branded tlg ang bibilhin…

Hey!!! AT first, I don’t like it, but when my dad bought NEO endura(????) I forgot the name. 1 GB RAM, (I guess the smallest laptop of NEO) etc… Gosh,, its so nice,, it even outshines TOSHIBA and ACER. it’s so compact. what I don’t like is its top view, (la lang)
about 34 K. but I guess no fan, di ko makita eh,, about LENOVO, parang super strong naman ng build nya. ok naman,,, good for presentations, though ____ syang gamitin kasi super dull talaga ng design nya. back to NEO, ok talaga sya,,, super fast and with it’s small size,, you can bring it anywhere. though it’s not that small unlike the newly released ASUS (yung parang portable DVD lang) <<<<>>>> nagustuhan ko din but the specs are arrrrghhhh!!! TNX for reading!!!

    Hi Guys,

    hello everyone.

i’m just passing through… doing research on neo laptops for my sister. gosh! after reading all your comments, i’ve never felt so proud to own an ibook g4 (in macverse, the model is jurassic. but hey, still running on strong.)

not to sound condescending but if you want excellent quality, durability, quality service, virus-free, loooong battery life, A+ performance, upgrades availability online (which also props on your screen automatically), int’l warranty, movement sensor, get a mac.

i have my ibook for 5 years now, dragging it all over, planes, buses, etc… never had a problem. (except when i broke its battery- my fault. and i had to order a new one. a very pricey replacement of 4,500).

last year i upgraded my software to 1.25gb memory, 100gbHD.

right now, i’m running multiple programs, 7. and running emule and limewire, at the same time, 24/7! still it runs on smoothly and fast. doesn’t hang. yep, my computer is always on, months on end, 24/7. busy downloading tv programs, 100+ episodes from limewire and emule. i would, however, give it an overnight rest when i feel like it, which comes in months :) attached to it on firewire is an extra 160HD.

Oh, and here’s the kicker- i don’t have an anti-virus software. yep, never had one. never had a virus, even after downloading all tv serial episodes from csi, 24, jericho, ugly betty, etc down to the latest “terminator sarah connor chronicles”…

so, people, take it from me… go for a mac. it’s all worth it.

my problem now is… i want to get macbook air. but can’t say goodbye to my ibook coz truly, its performance is still excellent after all these years.

mac is simply a powerful laptop.

    :)

nagsisisi ako pero i still love my laptop.

just passing by… got interested in posting.

my girlfriend just bought a neo laptop, forgot the model number. so far so good, she bought it last May… still observing it if it’s going to have some problems…

i do agree with some of the posts, it’s not with the brand, its not with how much you paid for the laptop that would determine the quality and the performance of the notebook. it is on how you use it and how you configure it.

it MAC, most viruses being released by certain people on the internet are targeting windows OS because there are a lot of users with that platform that’s why it is safe to use MAC.

i my self owns an ACER extensa that’s 4 years old… never had any problems, no crashes, no lock-ups, no BSOD, no freezes. if your techy you’d know how to configure the notebook correctly, and not force the performance. incorrectly configured systems and forced performance does not only result to software problems but also to hardware defects.

a word to the wise… it’s not with the brand, it’s on how you take care of your system and how you maintain the utmost of care in system maintenance that makes the notebook a quality system.

    peace and more power…

    Just passing by too…

Did you know that affordable Neo laptops cost Php 20,000 now?

    hmmm… what you think guys?

hello! i have the NEO 531 NLi and have been using it EVERYDAY for a year and 1 month of surfing the web, editing photos, recording/editing sounds, money making stuff, etc. i’ve NEVER had a problem with it. i have both windows XP and ubuntu 8.04 installed in it for dual-booting.

it don’t think it’s about the brand. what matters is the specs and how you take care of it. i have friends who work as techsupport for acer, dell, hp, and ibm. everyday, they troubleshoot laptops and receive complaints just the same.

a friend’s boyfriend bought an HP laptop for 90K (including upgrades offered by the sales person). we had a slight difference with the processor, everything else about the specs is the same but i got mine for only 30K. sulit na sulit.

now i’m eying neo’s vivid 1100. super cute.
