its 2009 and still as expensive as it is.. i just wish we can do something? file a petition on ICANN! only arroyo and her cronnies are gaining much from this.. we deserve more online presence.

What we need is to support the government in taking back DotPH from the private company. In the first place, DotPH is the country’s “domain name”. Let the Filipino people benefit from it and not some private corporation.

And regarding google favoring country-domains, if you are using the format .TLD.CD (country-domain), you are out of luck. From what Ive read elsewhere, google favors .TLD and .CD. So if you use .CD instead of .TLD.CD, you’ll rank better.

So .ph is better in the eyes of Google than .com.ph .net.ph .org.ph .edu.ph .gov.ph .biz.ph .info.ph etc.

(No, there are no .ws.ph :p hehe… .ws is a country-domain too.)

Yeah. Most of the People I talk to, however, would simply say… Don’t buy .ph domains. That’s it.

dotPH domains are not cheap. It just turns out that some PHlippine companies get dotPH domains because the regular dot com domain is taken. Advantage? It seems that Google appreciates local domains for regional sites. SO if you are targeting a local, philippine market, you would presumambly rank better in Google when you market your site. I have yet to see proof of this, though.

What are the benefits and advantages of getting a dotPH domain compared with generic ones (.com, .net, etc.)?

I live in the U.S. so we are all about the .com. What is the advantage of getting one of the country specific ones like .com.ph? Is it just the greater availability of good domain names? Or is there something beneficial in the localization of it?
