What Motivates You To Become Wealthy?
Wealth. What is it? In one book I’ve read, wealth is referred to as getting passive income greater than relative expenses. Let’s say you resigned from your work right now. How many months savings would you still have so that you can live without working? Six Months? One month? Less than a month? If you could live without working, you are wealthy. Imagine yourself, sitting by the beach, watching the sunset and relaxing, while money is pouring in. That’s being financially wealthy.
The point of many business gurus nowadays is to get streaming income, perhaps from multiple sources, that don’t require you to be actively managing it. The goal is to create a system that maintains itself – and gets you revenue.
How? Well one way is to get income from real estate rentals. This is in fact one of the most recommended ways and there are lots of books on the subject. The experts recommend buying a piece of property, improve it a bit, and then rent out space. If you don’t have capital, this could be difficult. You have to really use your head. You’ve got to figure out how to make money. How to be rich? How to be wealthy?
Perhaps the question is not just HOW. We should also ask WHY? Why do you want to be wealthy? Why do you need money? What motivates you? What drives you?
This, I believe, is a crucial question because, if you are not REALLY motivated, there is a tendency to relax. I know this cause I’ve been doing it for years. I told myself “I want to be rich” but I haven’t really reached the point of total financial wealth yet. In my personal reflections, I think this is because I’ve not yet been pushed to the edge. I am still secure. I haven’t been really motivated.
On motivation: My mom learned how to swim because she was pushed off a sea port’s ledge when she was five years old. Luckily, she kept cool, didn’t panic and figured out the natural body movements that would allow her to float. She needed to learn immediately or she would’ve drowned. Now THAT’s motivation.
One of my favorite entrepreneural books, The One Minute Millionaire, tells the fictional story of a mother who would lose custody of her kids if she didn’t get a Million Dollars in 90 days. Be a millionaire or lose your kids? That’s motivation.
Allow me to tell you this – I have now come to this stage in my life that I am motivated. My motivation comes out of love for some one special, and a bit of pride on what I can achieve. On this note, I’ve set a deadline to myself – July 2007. In around 11 months from now, I should be wealthy.
I don’t want to give out specifics. Suffice to say that this thought has been bugging me for several months, no…years now. I’m now focused and I’ve got to get myself in the ZONE. The next few months will be exciting. I will document all my experiences on this blog. I hope this provides REAL educational value to you, my readers.
Will I make it?

I think everyone dreams of being wealthy. Apparently, the situation here in PI makes it more difficult to achieve such dream. Nevertheless, we try to do our best and hopefully have a chance to “crack the pot”. Anyway, you obviously left the details out. Can you please share it with us? Please …
Hi Abet. I’ll share details in good time. :) I’ve a reason why I don’t post it here.
Why do I wanna be wealthy? Because it’s hard not having enough to get bye everyday. You limit yourself of where you wanna go or what you wanna do because you don’t have enough money. Then when one of your family gets hospitalized, you still need money. Sometimes, not having money breaks your soul big time.
I saw this post after reading a more recent one on the entrepreneurs’ earning. So, more than 11 months had passed, are you wealthy now? hehehe. Just curious with the time frame if it is quite realistic to achieve the financial freedom.
Not really Peach. Too many distractions. I’ve gotten enough monthly cash to get monthly grocery or gimik money. Not enough to live independent of a regular full time job yet.
Jozz Hi,
It seems that we are in the same cargo. We need to be totally determined and focused to achieve our main goal (to be wealthy). How much would make you to be filty rich? Or how much can you handle? The Bible teaches that, “whatsoever you ask for shall be given to you”. Just believe it is possible. Know what drives you to become rich, know your what you want, have plans and take massive action. Chunk your goals into sizable bits that you can handle daily. Just do it and you will surely be successful.
Will you make it? I hope you would.
The year that I set myself to achieve that dream to be rich was 2006. No specific date or month as long as before 2006 ended, I would be rich. 2006 passed by and it never came true. Instead, I got setbacks after setbacks after setbacks. I thought I was never gonna achieve my goals in life. So I just kinda cruising along and gave up but still a part of me just didn’t want to accept defeat. I looked for ways and I found one. I am not quite there yet but at least I know there is hope for me.
So what motivates me to get wealthy? My parents. I want to give back to them and let them experience more in life. I want them to experience luxury, travel the world and enjoy the time of their lives.
