Why Use Online Bookmarking Tools?

I know few Filipinos who bookmark webpages that they visit. Those who do prefer to just save the bookmarks through their browser since they usually use their personal computers when surfing the Internet.

What if you were in an Internet Cafe and wanted to save the URL of an interesting website? What are your options? You’ve got a lot! Del.icio.us, reddit, DIGG, Yahoo, Google, etc. I can probably list around 10-20 sites that allow bookmarking. A nice feature of these online sites is bookmark-sharing. If you’ve got a nice bookmarked site that you think other people (in your network) would appreciate, you just send it to them. This is called social bookmarking. Cool idea but somehow not really that popular here in the Philippines.

deliciousisulong.PNGLast week I posted a message in my isulong seoph website that I would offer a reward for those who would bookmark my site on Del.icio.us. I’ve had four people bookmark it so far - you can see the people who’ve bookmarked it here. My conclusion, either the reward isn’t big enough to merit attention or the site hasn’t been noticed yet.? I’ll see what will happen in the next few weeks.

I personally prefer DIGG and Del.icio.us. With Del.icio.us (and other bookmarking tools), you can add a small link on your site that people can click and automatically add to their bookmarks list.? Del.icio.us also has easy browser button which you could install for easy bookmarking.

I could only add few people on my del.icio.us network? since my other friends don’t seem to use bookmarking. I think Pinoys generally visit few websites. Too few to actually need bookmarking. We just memorize the URL addresses.

When you start saving a lot of URL addresses, you will slowly appreciate the value of bookmarking tools. Try exploring these tools. They can be time-savers.

Part of the problem with your contest is that only people planning on being in Manilla at the right time can win. While I would love to have the opportunity to visit Manilla someday, I don’t expect that to happe for many years. That probably greatly lowers the interest level of a lot of people.

I guess you are right, I should probably revise to reward as a gift-voucher on Amazon or something. I’ll find out how that works first.
