Apparently the Da Vinci Code movie was categoried as R-18 here in the Philippines by the Movie and TV Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). MTRCB is the entertainment censor here in Manila. R-18 means that only people aged 18 and above are allowed to watch the movie. This is typically rated for movies with sultry or raunchy content. For Da Vinci Code, I believe this was done more to appease the catholic groups here who’ve been lobbying that the movie be banned. Conservatives are somewhat threatened by the message of the movie, as I understand it.

Being R-18 means that the movie will not be shown on the SM Malls around Manila. Apparently, SM Management has a long standing policy of not-showing R-18 movies. Someone told me that the SM Malls cover over 50% of all movie theathers in here. This would only mean that those selected malls that plan on showing DaVinci could make a hefty income from those left out by the SM malls.

My friend made a comment about the movie. It seems that Tom Hanks is even more talented that SpiderMan. He got to face Magneto, Doctor Octopus and Darth Vader all in one movie! You’ve got to check out the movie to understand what he means.
