Razon’s Halu-halo and Pancit Luglug
My friend invited me to an affordable snack place over at Ortigas, just along Julio Vargas Avenue. The place is called Razon’s. Apparently it’s known for its simple halu-halo. For those who don’t know, Halu-halo is a popular Philippine Dessert comprised of shaved ice, milk, and various other fruits and delicacies. The name "halu-halo’ actually loosely translates to "mixed up". It’s a sweet, delicious dessert.
In our visit there, I was quite surprised to see that the place was full of people. Apparently, there was a nearby golf-driving range. My friend indicated that only rich and beautiful people practice golf-driving. Naturally, the view of the people was quite enticing.
The halu-halo itself was indeed simple. It had shaved ice, leche flan, macapuno, sweet banana, and milk. My friend describes it as "… having all the things you liked about halu-halo and removing all the other stuff.." A typical halu-halo has pinipig, gelatin, ice cream, sago, langka, melon, and other fruits or sweeteners.
I also tried out the pancit luglug. It basically looks like spaghetti, but the noodles are a bit softer and the sauce is colored yellow. There are also pork rind bits sprinkled over the sauce. As I tasted it, the noodles seemed to melt to my tongue and the sauce adds a nice salty flavor. It like I was eating a relatively ‘clean’ meal - there weren’t too many hard bits on it.
I looked at some of the advertised materials on the walls. Apparently this shop has been around for a while. They came from pampanga and their halu-halo is really the flagship product.
If you like simple halu-halo, go for Razon’s. They also have a shop at the Food Court section of Robinson’s Galleria.
