I’ll be honest. First off, I must say that they have, in my opinion (along with the opinion some web graphic artists I know) a crappy-looking website. Check out yossn.com to see for yourself. As I recall, a basic rule of website design is to have common fonts. Font differences are used only to highlight titles. Right now, I see Verdana and Times new Roman fonts all mixed. It really doesn’t look good.

I was honest enough to tell Wendell Tagros, the Business Associate for YOSSN, this little tidbit when I had a chance to meet him. I told them that their website just doesn’t look professional and believable. Being a marketing guy, I was already conjuring up ideas on how they could’ve improved the look of their website.

Despite that, the technology behind it all looks promising. Wendell explained the basic services they offered to my friend (who was interested in it). Although they were positioning the website itself to be like a ‘portal’ for buyers/sellers, they provided payment gateway services as well. This piqued my curiousity so we explored on e-commerce possibilities.

After going to an almost-paranoid yespayments, yossn is a welcome difference. They are quite accomodating - only a P2,500 registration fee and a 4.5% commission on items. The system they had reminded me of 2checkout system. Essentially they will accept payments for you and remit to you regularly. Wendell informed us that they allow weekly remittances in selected banks. You’d have to inquire personally to find out which banks are accepted.

They’ve got quite a number of local clients. Wendell was asking us if they were recommended by Janette Toral (of digitalfilipino). I believe he mentioned that Janette is actually their client. We just said, we heard about him through our network of contacts.

So far, the service they offer looks quite promising, especially for microbusinesses. It still to early to say, though, whether they can really offer quality services to Philippine Entrepreneurs.
