Opportunity for a Custom Barong Tagalog Online Store
I just wanted to point this out to the Philippine Entrepreneurs out there. I checked this out last month and found something interesting. Using wordtracker, I keyed in “Tagalog” as a keyword that I wanted to analyze. Look at some of the results:
Keywords —————————————–KEI
“custom barong tagalog for sale” ——–144.000
“custom barong tagalog wholesale” —144.000
There were many other references to “barong tagalog.” When I searched “custom barong tagalog for sale” on google, there were no results. This exact phrase is searched an average of 14 times in 25 hours.
“Custom barong tagalog wholesale” in google search also gave me nothing.
As you can see above, the KEI for both sets are 144. KEI stand for Keyword Effectiveness Index. The higher the KEI, the more it is searched for and less competition it has. Althougth the KEI is not as high as “Jollibee philippines” – which had an amazing KEI rating of 2139.813, anything higher than KEI 10 is considered significant.
What does this tell us? It seems that there is a market online for barong tagalog. I have a hunch that this maybe an international market. Perhaps the Filipinos abroad are looking for “barong tagalog’?
According to Wikipedia:
“A
Barong Tagalog (or simply Barong) is an embroidered formal garment of
the Philippines. It is very lightweight and worn untucked, similarly to
a coat. It is the common wedding and formal attire for Filipino men.
Barong Tagalog literally means “Tagalog dress” in the Tagalog language.”
When I passed by the National Trade Fair, I found some “barong tagalog” makers and told them that there was a demand for their products online. They just said “ok” and didn’t seem to understand what I was talking about.
I wanted to shout to the NTF exhibitors “Hey guys! You’ve got an opportunity here!” but they seemed to just prefer that someone else start the online store. They’ll just be the supplier for whoever wants to start up the store.
Just think about this. If these keywords are searched 14 times per day, and you could sell even just one “barong tagalog” worth P5000. (High end barongs are around this price range.) That’s already around P150,000 in 30 days. Take note, however, that the search is for “custom” barongs. We wonder what “custom” means. Does it refer to tailor-fit clothes? Or perhaps it refers to those with custom designs?
If I had the time and the money, I’d start this myself. However, I offering this up to you, my readers instead.
So here’s something for you, if you are a Barong Tagalog exporter, and would like to set up an online store, perhaps I can help you on the technology side. I could probably get a discount on our company’s online store system – annexstore. Send me a personal email if you’re interested.

Read your blog and I totally agree with your idea on having an e-store dedicated to selling ‘barong tagaolgs’. A search on just ‘barong tagalogs’ turned up at most 4 online stores that sell this item. Considering there’s a growing population of ex-patriate Filipinos, I’m sure the demand for anything traditionally Filipino would be high. Were you able to get farther with your solicitation for exporter/suppliers of barong tagalogs?
Salamat,
Flo
Hi Flo, I told a number of philippine barong makers about this little tidbit and none were really interested. Too bad.

I am an experience retail/wholesale clothing salesperson. I have 25plus years experience in the US market. I have been looking for many years
for a source of quality barong tagalong shirts to rep and sales in the United States. I have a very thorough knowledge of the wholesale and retail from coast to coast. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and efforts in this important matter.
Sincerely yours

HI, MY THESIS IS ABOUT ONLINE STORE OF BARONG. DO YOU HAPPEND TO KNOW ANY OTHER ONLINE STORE THAT EXISTS IN MANILA AREA? ILL BE VERY GLAD IF YOU COULD HELP.THANK YOU
i am into retailing of “office barongs”, this has fast becoming the most accepted corporate attire in manila, mainly because of its elegance and at the same time, its comfortability, as compared to wearing long sleeves or formal coat, tie etc.
i only get my supplies from somewhere confidential, so im afraid its a ‘ready made’ type of clothing, S M L or XL. Sizes are standard with most barongs found in the malls
i have no permanent store, eventually, -that’s a dream! Meantime, i m joining bazaars, mostly in corporate bldgs. ,
formal blouses or terno for ninangs or mommies can also be ordered, just specify the color and material,
formal barongs, in jusi, pina or other materials are also available.
Pls visit my site to see samples of what i sell & we can discuss business!
Hi Girlie. Good luck with your business.
It’s fun but has a lot of hassles.
Hi Jozzua;
I am an investor and business owner here in the U.S. My partner and I wish to market the BARONG TAGALOG attire here. There is a great desire for this fashion in associations and clubs here in America and the majority of orders will be (surprisingly) not from Filipino Americans. I have been looking online as well for a manufacturer/ tailor that can make them by bulk at wholesale pricing. Colors and different materials are desired. I don’t know how else to search for these companies. Would you like to connect and get this imported properly? I have the market for it. If we can customize a design or style and mass produce them would be extraordinary niche.

Hi Jozzua,
Thank you for promoting the Filipino barongs. I started my on-line gusot-mayaman (ramie and doby) barong business just recently (Amicus Barongs – http://www.darlingdaze.multiply.com). Unfortunately, we have not ventured into the Barong Tagalog business since it entails more intricacies. Like Girlie’s barongs, ours are ready-to-wear. I am planning to launch our barong line in the near future, I hope that interested clients will visit our multiply site (temporarily while our web site is still under construction). Thanks again and more power!
