433-ULAN PAGASA ‘whether’ report

Please forgive me. I couldn’t help but laugh at the weather report from PAGASA’s telephone system. PAGASA refers to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration. People basically approach PAGASA to find out the weather forecast.

PAGASA has a telephone line - 433-ULAN (433-8526). When you dial-in to this number, you get an automated voice response. It will prompt you to select among the different choices available. What is actually a bit funny is the ACCENT of the speaker. The speaker has a very strong and identifiable dialect. Call the number and you will understand what I mean.

I wonder if this is intentional. Somehow, listening to the ‘different’ voice allows me to easily remember the telephone number. Perhaps this is a mneumonic device for us who have short memories. Perhaps not? Anyway, it somehow gets me to go back to listen to the weather report now and then. Aside from the information, it offers me a bit of entertainment value.

Kidding aside, the system itself does provide the latest updates on Philippine weather and is quite informational. I must applaud PAGASA for having this kind of system in place. Anyone who missed out the early tv/radio reports could just call and learn today’s weather.

May pag-asa pala ang PAGASA.
