Hi, with the nice figures reported, I wonder what went wrong making you decide to sell. It will be interesting to sit down and discuss. Might end up giving an offer to purchase.thanks

PS- long story short- the #'s is not the problem, its the Franchise itself.
We opened up in April 2006 and up to the current date (2010) the ROI has not yet been achieved (fact we ended up dumping more $$ into it).

I'll sell you mine with proof of over P90,000+ per day in sales

think it over...

Hello- I franchised a Ministop in Makati.
Pros- Base on your # P35,000 per day is not that hard to get. We averaged P60,000+ in the first week, then climbed over P90,000 within 90 days.

The Bad- I'd think twice again about Franchising with Robinsons

I am wondering the same thing...35000 php a day on an inital capital of 2 million roughly transaltes to breaking even in about 30 days...thats is absolute rubbish...I do not know of any legal and large scale retailing business that can get your 2 million back in 2 days. Maybe your friend does not fully understand how investing work...a 10 year franchise for 2 million is a steal as far as Im concerned...lets say your lusy ministop only earns 50K a MONTH (net). So ur 2 mill will ROI in about 4 years...so what do you get from the 6 years left in ur franchise? Lets say your sales go down because of competion after your 4th year and drags ur sales to a meager 20K a MONTH. 20K x 12 x 6 = is still 1.4million. Sure, whats 1.4 million for a 10 year investment right? BUt then again if what you friend was told and that some franchises earn as much as 30-50K in A DAY, then how much do you think your 2 million will earn over a 10 year period?

I just wonder how your friend could come up with P35,000/day only to break even should she continue with franchising.. I'm not a graduate of management or any course in relation to retailing, but I'm thinking that she might have the ROI computed in a month.

But any good and honest investment vehicle will not offer a quick month-long ROI.

Thanks and appreciate your story. :)

Franchise business in general has gains and at the same time has risks. Getting a franchise does not even guarantee you profits rather it minimizes risk because you don't have to re-invent the wheel all over again. In franchising, you are basically buying the right to use their system (wrong or right) and you will have a very small room to exercise your entrepreneurial mind. Although the system encourages it, you would be required to follow protocols and policies.

The ministop franchise was basically adapted from Japan. (where convenience retailing was perfected by 7-Eleven, Japan) If I'm not mistaken, they have almost the same franchise package.

My advice to your friend is as follows:
1. Do the numbers - it would be best to know your projected bottom line as of now; handling a 24/7 business is no joke and your net would greatly determine your outlook and attitude towards the whole business.

2. Interview existing franchisees- try to talk/interview as many franchisees as you can. Franchising in ministop started way back 2002 and it would be good to know how they improved (or the other way around) thru the last several years. Expect to hear both good and bad, it would be up to you on how you digest it. Also, there is no perfect system.

3. Check the Industry / Competition - research as much as you can; affiliated organizations, DTI, Phil.Franchise Association, AFFI, Phil.Retailers Assoc.; they can also help; benchmark against competition since there are only 2 players in the industry; research awards and recognitions;

4. Franchisor Record in the industry - check on the company's background, affiliation; do they adapt to fair franchising standards; do they have a fair franchsing contract; sometimes affordability should not be the only factor in getting the franchise; existing franchisees can attest to that; company reputation; visit their HQ; are employees friendly? accomodating? or are they just interested to get your franchise fee?
