One Day Rent-A-House

Before Christmas 2005, my friends and I went on an ocular inspection of a vacation spot in Laguna, just south of Manila. The place is called Solemar de Los Ba?os. It’s actually a entire resort village where all the houses can be rented out. I gave a brief summary of our little trek to one house and this is the edited version of it:

———

A one-and-a-half ride from Ortigas, the house for rent we were considering was found hidden along the highway to los ba?os. Landmarked by a “Binalot” restaurant, our entry to the village was welcomed by the Bicycle Boys. These travel guides lead you to the different resort houses along the way. You’d half follow them if it werent’ for that gnawing suspicion that they’re getting commissions for referring you to their preferred destinations — but that’s just a guess.

The house itself, sits quietly on the corner of some Jasmine street. A wooden brown gate beckons you inside. Immediately to your right is a billiard table. Just beside it is a glass-walled room with some sofas inside. The left side is a landscaped garden. Just in the middle of it is a covered swimming pool.

There was a function room just beside the pool, as well as an open area for the kitchen with tables and chairs. One could go grilling with tahong, barbeque and such here. Ignoring the PINOY BIG BROTHER theme song being sang by the caretakers with videoke, we encountered a jacuzzi.. just at the end of the pool. We grimaced to discover the jacuzzi was P500 per hour use. Ack! Not part of the amenities!

A shower area was there. It mimicked a bamboo/tree that’s been cracked open. One could act as Malakas and Maganda from an old Filipino foklore here. The scene resembled it.

The view from the second floor was magnificent. No, there were no other women( other than Maria Makiling?). Just imagine, waking early dawn, opening your room door and see that grand natural mountain view before you.

The bathrooms were really nice and clean. I counted three.. 2 on the second floor and 1 at ground level. You could see that the owner took great pains in maintaining a nice clean look for the house. There were around 2 beds per on each of the 3 bedrooms. The third room even had something like a window bed/sofa. All had air-conditioning.

There was a mini-stage we could use for events, as well. My personal favorite.. a disco mirrorball just above the swimming pool. What else could they think of?

All in all, the house was welcoming, clean and ready for us to party in. For P10,000-P14,000 in 24 hours.. the house invites family fun, group parties or romantic personal
interludes within it.

Please note that the Vacation Village took some bad publicity just before Christmas. Apparently there were stories of theft is one of the other houses. We still went there (to a different house), and enjoyed our stay. We plan on going back next year. The caretaker said that the stories/rumors about them were overblown.
