I’ve taken a stab at freelance web development. Previously, I worked with some partners on some big projects. Our biggest project was an interactive website for a hotel complete with 360-degree Panoramic shots of its lobbies and suites. We were able to close that deal for P100,000.

After that though, we?ve discovered that most companies were willing to shell out only around P15-25 thousand pesos on a website. These are generally macromedia-flash made ? complete with audiovisual effects and spectacles. Clients love making their website like a television commercial.

The trend nowadays, seems to be to go for freelancers. I discussed this with a friend who also works on websites and offers web-hosting services. We?ve discovered that the following freelancers price guide would be just about right:

  • Basic Web development includes a brochure-type online and static (non-animated) web presence. A minimum of P5000 for the first 10 pages and 400 per additional page. Clients must prepare pictures and write up materials for the website.
  • Template based web development uses pre-existing general templates that can include an unlimited number of pages. This includes client training on how to change the content of the website. P4000.
  • Dynamic website using a content-management system (PHP/MySQL) is a website presence that allows your visitors to interact more with your website. Components that can be included are: database system, membership registration, online discussion groups, and automatic picture galleries, etc. P6000.
  • An e-commerce template website setup with payment system integration. This is an online shopping catalogue system. The package includes user training on how to add products. Clients must have their own paypal/2CO/Authorize.net accounts. P20,000.

Add-ons:

  • A domain name is what your visitors will type on the web browser to see your website (example: www.yahoo.com). P600 /year (can go higher, especially if you go for a .ph domain)
  • A web hosting account is a computer where your files will be put in. This is usually online and is directly linked to your Domain Name. P2400 /year
  • Flash animated banner. P500 per banner.

I have actually closed a deal with an attorney with the pricing scheme above. They chose some options and I was able to get around P8,000. What I suggest is to offer, if possible, ready-template choices when you present to a client and have one-day deals. Essentially, you make the entire website in one day using the templates you already have. At the end of the day, you get paid. This is an ideal scenario though and may not always work out.
