How to get from Antipolo to Makati (Philippines)
I live in Antipolo City and currently work in Makati City. Depending on
the traffic, it is around one to one-and-a-half hour trip going from
Antipolo to Makati.
Here in manila, you could go around either
by a jeepney, a bus, MRT, taxi or a shuttle service. The cheapest route
for me would be to take a jeepney from Antipolo to Cubao, then a bus to
Buendia, corner of Makati Avenue. That would be:
- A jeepney ride from Antipolo to Cubao – P21.00
- Non-airconditioned bus from Cubao to Makati – P16.00
Only 37 Pesos! Would it be worth it? My opinion.. No way! With the
tropical weather here, I’d be sweating on my way to the office. I’d
have to take the jeepney – one of the most popular transport vehicles
here in Manila. A jeepney is not enclosed and passengers would have
full breathe of all the air pollution and dust. The traffic from
Antipolo to Cubao would be a killer – probably take me an hour or more
in the morning rush hour. I’d probably be psychologically tired by the
time I’m in the office.
Now, on the other extreme, what would be the fastest?
- A Tamaraw FX Public Taxi from Antipolo to the closest Mall (Sta. Lucia) – P15.00
- A Taxi ride from Sta. Lucia Mall to Makati – P150.00
The FX Taxis are like small buses that can accomodate up to 10
passengers. It’ became popular in the 1990s for those middle class
families who prefer to ride in air-conditioned public vehicles. They
are different from regular taxis since the drivers usually take a
single route.. from Antipolo to Cubao or Cubao to Divisoria, etc… I
would have to take the FX from Antipolo to the Sta. Lucia Mall because
there aren’t really many taxis that pass by Antipolo. They are usually
closer to the malls.
This 2nd ride would be my fastest route to the office, but it woul also be the most expensive!
Luckily, I have a third option. This would be my best balance for time and budget:
- An FX ride to Masinag Market where shuttles to Makati are found – P10.00
- A Shuttle ride to Makati – P45.00
Shuttle Services are usually Mitsubishi L300 FB or Vans that accomodate
14-16 people. It is enclosed and air-conditioned. There are still a
number of people who don’t know about the Shuttle Services. Unlike the
jeepneys and FX vehicles, you have to pay a flat rate on these vans
whether you are dropping just close by or up to the end of the trip.
There
is a person called a “barker” who calls out to passersby and tell them
the destination of the shuttle. Manny, our regular barker at Masinag
market, would regularly shout out “Makati! Makati!” and point out which
vehicles take that route. When in doubt, I just ask the barker for more
info on the trip.
There are also shuttle vans from Makati to
various spots around manila. Sometimes they operate at certain times of
the day – like from 5pm to 8pm. This usually depends on whether there
are still passengers around.

Hi Elymar, I’m from Sydney but am planning to visit family there in Antipolo soon. Great info on Antipolo to Makati! can you also tell me the reverse? Makati to Antipolo, quickest way. Also, I’ve been to a beautiful lookout there, but can’t remember the name. Do u know the name? or can suggest a nice place to take my gf in antipolo? Thanks Elymar. Hope you reply. If u do, pls cc litovyt@optusnet.com.au
Hi. Thanks, sorry for the delayed reply. Other than taking a taxi to Antipolo (Good Luck with that), you could take the train from Makati Ayala MRT station to Cubao. From There you look for a Tamaraw FX Shuttle going to Antipolo. Go towards gateway mall and exit at the Aurora Boulevard side. There are Tamaraw FX vehicles there with a sign that says “Antipolo” usually displayed in front of the vehicle windows.
There are Cab companies that could also take you there. Expect to spend around P250-P500 for that. At most, 10 dollars. Don’t pay more than that!
Have a safe trip!
Hi, I was googling for manila jeepney routes just now and read with interest your blog entry which appreared on the search.
The reason I’m dropping you a note is because of this app: http://www.nanika.net/metro/
I’ve been contributing to the manila map for more than a year but my output is admittedly low because I move around mainly in the south of the metropolis and I don’t get to commute publicly as often as you seemingly do. When I saw that you commute (or commuted) in the Balara area, I thought, hey, maybe you can help add to the map!
Instructions for contributing are on the contribute link in the page above. Alternatively, you can just send me the text file (detailing the route, stops and travel time between stops) and I can help format it, with credits to you of course.
Hope you can help out.
Thanks.
